I had high hopes for these - most modern laptops only have one serial port, we sometimes need several for work projects, and it's hard to travel with a desktop computer.
The hardware comes w/o any manual, and with only a half-sized CD-ROM for drivers. I have almost a dozen CD/DVD readers, none could read the drivers for these. I had to use the device manager to find the device "name" (USB-SER!), then dig around online (google) until I found a note from someone else that it needs a different driver installed (USB-SERIAL CH340). Google around to find a place to download the driver.
Even with the new driver installed, if I unplug the cable and plug it back in, it reverts to the original ID and stops working, forcing me to use the device manager to "update" the driver manually to the CH340 driver. At least by doing this via the device manager, I can see which com port it is.
Once the driver is properly associated, it seems to work very well.
Note - it may show up under com ports, or under unknown USB devices.
