Kensington 33050 8-Feet Retractable Phone Cord Review
This was not my first self retracting modem cable, but it was the best. Two features were key: the hub is lightweight, so it does not put stress on the cord when extended between the outlet and the computer; second, there is a ratchet mechanism which prevents the retraction spring constantly pulling the cord taut.The result is that once you pull the cord to the length you need, there is no tension in the cord. Another cable I tried had constant tension and a heavy retraction hub. It's plug connector to the computer was becoming frayed and so worn that it would not stay plugged in. The Kensington model did not have these problems.
Unfortunately, the Kensington cable abruptly stopped transmitting signal. I'm going to get another one, but this time I'm keeping my receipt for the warranty.
The only suggestion for improvement is that the have the hub at one end of the cord, rather than in the middle.
