Actiontec W1000 Wireless Module for Qwest M1000 DSL Modems Review

Qwest DSL Wireless Adapter
1)First thing first, unplug the modem before plugging the adapter in, otherwise the power for the adapters antenna will not come on. Changing wireless setting and network name is easy all you need to do is login to the modem by way of the modems IP address (default address is 192.168.0.1). No this is not the one need to hack someone home network. Left click on Wireless Setup you'll see several tab on the left.
2)Basic setup: Us this if you do not plane to change the default 64bit WEP settings (Would recommend changing the security setting to either WPA or WPA2, because WEP encryption is broken). Change the SSID name to something that fits you and you can use your SSID name to mess with your neighbor's.
3)WEP setup: From here you can change the security settings for WEP, from the default settings. WEP security is broken just so you know, and is easy to hack; even the 256bit encryption. Knowing this and you still want to use WEP, make sure that to set Key one to what you want, leave the rest blank if you wish.
4)WEP + 802.1x: Adds something extra to WEP security encryption but is still easy to hack.
5)AnyWPA or WPA2: WPA2 is the common security encryption for most wireless networks and is more secure the WEP. You can choose from either auto WPA or WPA2, WPA only or WPA2 only. Your encryption key most be at least 8 alphanumeric characters, but 12 to 36 is recommend, and yes despite what one of the reviewers said it does support PSK for both WPA and WPA2. Before you apply the settings copy the key (Ctrl + C), so that you can past (Ctrl + V) it in to the security field when you connect to the network. Windows Vista and 7 users', need to open the Manage Wireless Network window, to change the proprieties of the network if you did not change the SSID name. Right click on the network name and click on the security tab: past (Ctrl + V) the alphanumeric characters in the encryption key box, then click okay.
6)Pros:
a)Plugs into modem, so no extra cabling needed.
b)50 metter range
c)Under 30 dollars
d)Bridgeable modem/wireless networking via wired Ethernet.
e)WPA/WPA2 with PSK security encryption.
7)Cons:
a)WEP 64bit default security.
b)SSID limited to 32 characters (not really a con, but limits ways to mass with me neighbors).
c)54Mbits limiting the number of computers on the wireless to 4 (note: 5 computers can be on the network, one via wired Ethernet from modem).
8)Overall this adapter is a most have add-on for the Qwest M1000 modem, plus for Qwest costumers it's $19.99, 10 dollars cheaper than with Amazon; and you'll receive it with 3 days after order with free shipping if order through Qwest. Bottom line, if do not want or wish to spend up words of 80 dollars on an wireless G router and take the extra time in setting that up then get this, your be just as happy with this.
