UPDATE: 8/17This Access Point has done worse than simply fail.
In Client Mode, it will no longer maintains a reliable connection to the host AP.
The signal strength from the host AP doesn't vary much. A direct connection of a laptop to the host AP maintains more or less continuous uptime, despite generally low signal strength.
But a simultaneous connection of a computer through the Alfa, which has better signal strength thanks to a directional antenna, experiences outages at least every half hour.
In many of these outages, the Alfa loses the connection, drops into "scanning" status, and never automatically re-connects to the host AP.
Often, before it can be manually re-connected, I'll have to go into the "Security" settings and hit "Apply Changes" WITHOUT MAKING ANY CHANGES before it will successfully re-associate to the host AP. Apparently this procedure resets the network interfaces, and the resulting behavior is DIFFERENT from power cycling the device, which does not always fix the unable-to-associate problem.
A firmware update might fix this device and make it into a slick, low-cost piece of networking hardware.
As it is, the AWAP608H is a cheap piece of junk.
I'm dropping my rating to 1 star (I'd go lower if I could), and I'm going to return it to DBROTH.
Avoid this device until Alfa releases a firmware update. After that, approach with caution.
UPDATE 6/29
I got the access point to work. Still rating it only 3 stars for the configuration hassle and poor documentation.
The only difference between the configuration now (when it works) and before (when I wrote my original review) is that I set the wireless "band" to "B/G", instead of "G", which I had it set to originally. Since my host AP is configured for G networking only, that doesn't make any sense. But that's the only change I made, and it works now.
Also, the built-in DHCP server doesn't have the good sense to pass through DNS information from the host AP, so a client PC won't be able to "see the web" when it connects through the Alfa. For that, you have to plug DNS info in by hand, and the Alfa AP only has one slot for a DNS server address.
But, under the Alfa's "TCP/IP Settings", you can set the "gateway" to the IP address of the host AP and the client PC will pull IP and DNS info from there. At this point (as a previous reviewer discovered), you can disable the Alfa's DHCP server.
Since the reviews on this Amazon page seem be the only troubleshooting information on the web for this piece of hardware, I'm leaving my original review intact, below.
All comments, excluding gripes about the failure of "AP Client Mode" (since corrected), are still valid.

I bought this AP for its advertised ability to connect to other Access Points wirelessly, with full WPA2-AES encryption.
It fails to connect in every case.
I've tried multiple host APs, from different makers, with WPA2, WPA, WEP, and without encryption.
The web interface exclaims "Connect failed!" in every case, regardless of the AP's DHCP settings.
The documentation rates somewhere between terrible and may-as-well-not-exist.
There is no explanation of what the "AP/Client" switch on the back of the case actually does. Through the web interface, you can set the device to "AP mode" or "AP Client Mode", regardless of the position of the physical switch. There's simply no way to tell how the two settings interact.
The AP will not respond to wired ethernet traffic for somewhere between 5 seconds and 2 minutes following any change in the settings. So, changing 3 parameters can take up to 6 minutes if they're spread over three different pages of the web interface (eg. B/G networking, SSID non-broadcast, and the WEP or WPA key).
The AWAP608H appears to be a functional access point for normal use in "AP Mode".
Bonus: The device runs surprisingly hot all the time. Since I was never able to connect to the remote AP, I didn't get to see how hot it got when it was actually processing network traffic.
You should definitely buy this item if you want a miniature space heater with bright blue flashing LEDs on the front.
