The package that arrived look very different from the package pictured. It was a pretty simple bubble pack. A "PTC" sticker had been placed on top of the original manufacturer's name, "Viewcon". I plugged this in to a windows XP machine, and it worked out of the box, with no additional drivers necessary. I plugged this in to a Mac OS 10.6.8 machine and got nothing. So I went to install the drivers. Unfortunately, the product ships with a "mini" cd, making it impossible to put into a modern MacBook or MacBook Pro computer. I stuck the CD into my XP machine, shared the files over the net and followed the directions to install the driver. The driver is really made for Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger). I was doubtful if it was going to work. While I attempted to follow the directions provided for Mac installation, they were out of date, and slightly different from the screens I was actually seeing. The driver installation required a restart. After the restart, the new hardware was discovered, and I was able to use it right away with a terminal program. I am unsure whether "an activation" was required, and I don't think I activated anything. I wouldn't call this the perfect product, but it worked.
