Mini Null Modem DB9 Male / DB9 Male, Adaptor Review

I needed a small form factor Null Modem and a Gender Changer, this item promised to be be both in one package. Upon installation in my setup (GPS to position enabled radio) the GPS unit was not communicating with the radio. Checking the GPS, I found it to be functioning fine, checking the cables, I found them to be working. I then checked the individual pin-outs on this device and found all pins to be a straight through. 1->1, 2->2, 3->3, etc. This is NOT a null modem but it makes a fine gender changer if you happen to need one. If you need a Null Modem, buy something else.

This story, like many others on this board, have striking similarities to each other.1. I buy an expensive new media center toy...
2. I experience buzzing from my speakers with the new device installed...
3. Call the cable company after tracing the buzzing sound to a poorly grounded CATV line (house is properly grounded too)...
4. Cable guy comes out and finds no problem even though he can hear the buzz as I plug in and unplug the coax...
5. Cable guy says TV has to be up pretty loud to hear buzzing, blames problem on TV...
6. I go into GTFO of my house mode... (important step)
7. Buy Viewsonics VSIS-EU CATV Ground Loop Isolator...
8. Plug in isolator...problem solved...no more buzz....
9. Post wonderful review for this product, immediately...

CMC2002H 2-Way Splitter Review

I guess you'd have to rate a product like this according to whether or not it just works or just doesn't work at all. How do you give 5 stars to a 2-way splitter, unless the thing somehow "improves" a signal (most of them don't, nor are they designed to). I have a couple of pricey faux-gold-plated name brand splitters that actually didn't transmit a signal as cleanly as this Antronix can. I'd prefer to work with an unaltered signal; it appears that this splitter, except for the usual -3.5 db loss, sends exactly the same signal it receives. I can't say as much for the high-priced spread I compare it to, whose image looked a bit darker and warmish, with somewhat dense blacks. I note that my cable provider uses this same splitter along with a similar Viewsonics model. Cable companies use products that fulfill several critical requirements. The splitter should not materially alter the incoming or returning signal (the usual 1/2 loss being unavoidable). It shouldn't have side effects that could damage the customer's equipment or create problems on the company's network (which some pricey splitters are known to do). In this case, the splitter should be optimally designed for HD cable use, not for satellite or antenna. According to the cable company, this Antronix fills the bill in all respects. According to my eyes, it works just as well or better than the $30 gold-plated ripoff I replaced with this product -- in fact, my picture looks slightly but visibly less noisy than before.

9-Pin DB9 Male to Male Null Modem Adapter NULL-A-9MM Review

There are some adapters sold here that by other reports are not null modems but simply gender changers. A null modem is different in that the pins are not wired straight through but instead are reversed. This adapter is indeed a null modem, so rest assured it will work. It is very small because the two connectors are inverted making the cross connections much easier.

I live in the lightning belt of Central Florida and the lightning has done terrible damage to electronics in the past. It is important to ground and surge-protect all lines that enter a home (Power, Cable or Satellite, Telephone...). I considered installing a surge protector on the main cable line coming in, but all the units I found were the kind that plug into an electrical outlet. Then I found this item on Amazon. It arrived in a day (thank you prime) and the install took under 5 minutes (I posted a picture of what it looks like). It is compatible and completely transparent to broadband cable internet and digital cable with no service issues whatsoever. And with 1500 surges and is self-resetting, this should last a while. Overall, I am very happy with this product.

I received my mini null modem adapter only to find an impostor in its place. What I received was labeled as "mini null modem adapter" but was nothing more than a straight though plug. And unlike in the picture mine had pin 9 intact.

I don't have the equipment to do a really good test, but I use these on all my unterminated connections from an 8-way splitter/amplifier (Also purchased from this seller), and my reception seems to be very good. I used to have issues (glitches every few seconds in the audio, and the occasional breakup in video) with receiving ClearQAM digital cable into a Hauppauge HVR-1600, and I think adding these helped a bit. I then added the 8-way amp and got rid of all my splitters, and used a HDHomeRun instead of the HVR-1600, and digital signal is now ~98% on most channels, and basically never breaks up or glitches. Honestly, I think the HDHomerun and the amp are the biggest factors, but for the price of these terminators and assurance they are not leaking signals in they are worth putting on.

Product would have been fine if i needed a gender changer, but I ordered a null modem adapter and the tape around the connectors said it was but the pins were all straight connections. I bought this so I wouldn't have to dig out an old 20' null modem cable but had to resort to that all the same since this didn't give me the cross talk like i needed.
