Belkin F8T030 Bluetooth Access Point with USB Print Server Review

The tech support was prompt and knowledgeable. The unit has good range which seems to be limitied more by the class of the PDA that is trying to acess it.
HOWEVER this product has a VERY serious design deficiency that makes it UNSUITABLE FOR USE at any price!!!! Belkin tech support has confirmed that there is no way to reset the unit to the original factory settings if you can not acess it via the built in web manager. Belkin tech support also confirmed that there is also a flaw in the unit that will cause some user passwords to not be accepted. Once this happens, this will essentially require returning the unit for complete replacement. I know of no other networking product that has such a serious design flaw (all other networking devices I am aware of have at least a reset button somewhere or a "power on" sequence to handle these inevitable situations). It also makes the unit unusable for any scenario where if you make a change to the settings, you can not afford to be without it for the time to swap it out.
An obvious problem for you, me and Amazon here!

Belkin F8T030 Bluetooth Access Point with USB Print Server Overview

Early Adopters Pick: March 2003 The Belkin F8T030 Bluetooth Access Point allows you to transfer data to other Bluetooth-enabled devices including computers, PDAs and printers as well as to gain Internet access through a connected network.
Offering access to local area networks (LANs) with devices enabled with Bluetooth technology such as Pocket PC PDAs, Palm PDAs, notebooks, desktop PCs, and mobile phones, the Bluetooth Access Point with USB Print Server offers connectivity to the Internet, corporate LAN, and home networks. It also enables any USB printer to be accessed via a Bluetooth connection when connected through the Access Point's USB print server ports. At the same time, the product functions as a USB print server where the printer can be visible to the entire wired LAN, which allows the connected USB printer to be accessed by any client on the wired LAN. Up to seven users can simultaneously share the Internet, the LAN, or print to a USB printer via a Bluetooth connection. It features two USB type A connectors, an RJ45 Ethernet port, and the front has seven multicolored LEDs that depict connection activity quickly and easily.
The Access Point requires no manual configuration. It can be installed and start running in under two minutes, needing only a power source and an Ethernet connection, according to the manufacturer. The IP is obtained automatically via DHCP upon power-up or can be set by any Bluetooth client.

D-Link DP-101P+ Pocket Ethernet Print Server Review

Through no fault of this excellent product I was only able to use it for a week - I inherited an old Lexmark Z11 inkjet that I wanted to share between two laptops in my corporate apartment, but wound up replacing the Lexmark with an USB-only printer.
What makes this such an excellent product is the ease of installation and the fact that it flawlessly works. Installing it consisted of attaching the device directly to the printer's parallel interface, connecting an Ethernet cable to the RJ-45 port on the other side of the print server, running the CD ROM installation and being able to immediately print to a shared printer.
One of the things I most like is the installation and configuration utility that ships with this device. You get an administration program (you can also access and administer the print server through a browser or through a telnet session), and an "add printer" wizard that makes configuring other computers on your network easy. In fact, the "add printer" wizard is a quantum improvement over D-Link's earlier Pocket Print Server products - I own an older model and set-up and configuration was somewhat confusing, which is no longer the case with their newer software. I also link the small power supply, which takes up little space in a power strip or on an UPS.
Overall, this is a high quality product that has a plethora of features (it supports Windows networking, AppleTalk and TCP/IP, and it can be managed via browser of by using TCP/IP telnet), and can be installed and configured by a novice.

Netgear PS110 10/100 Print Server with 2 Parallel Ports Review

The instructions don't mention Windows XP. The web site mentions it, barely, but wihhout instructions. I wasted an hour trying to do it myself, then an hour with tech support. Finally got it working, but only because I know about IP addresses, network configuration, etc. I imagine it would be easy to setup if they bothered to provide instructions for WIndows XP, and it may be easy with older versions of Windows. But XP users should stay away. And wonder why NetGear can't provide any attempt at instructions a year after XP's release.
Once I got it working, it works fine. The only hassle was setting it up.

Netgear PS110 10/100 Print Server with 2 Parallel Ports Overview

Netgear's PS-110 print server lets you share printers among all users on the network without complex configurations or having to dedicate a PC for printer serving. It connects directly to the network and can be placed anywhere for convenient access. With its built-in network hub, the Netgear PS110 provides connectivity solutions and file, print, and resource sharing. It can also connect two parallel printers, such as a color printer with a high-speed laser printer.
The Netgear PS110 attaches to a 10 or 100 Mbps hub or switch, providing seamless transition from Ethernet to Fast Ethernet. It has one speed-sensing 10/100 Mbps printer port and a pair of IEEE 1284 bidirectional parallel network ports. The extensive LED screen highlights all links and activities. The unit also provides simultaneous support for Unix, Windows, and NetWare clients. TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, and NetBEUI network protocols are supported as well.
FirstGear, a Windows-based configuration tool, enables simple installation. Flash EPROM lets you download upgrades as they become available.Netgear offers a five-year warranty on the print server, while the power adapter is covered for a year.

Siemens SS2604 4-Port Ethernet DSL/Cable Router with Print Server Review

Worked fine for a couple years - a lot better than my previous (different brand) router - then a few days ago (May 2005), it just stopped working.
Now the Status and Print Err lights remain red (I never had a printer connected to it), and the Power and Print Act lights remain green, and any ports with computers connected just flash slowly. I tried holding in the reset button for a long time, and I even tried letting is sit completely unplugged for a few days, then resetting again, but it is still dead.
I have my router and cable modem connected to my UPS, and there were no power problems the day, so I don't think it was a power surge that caused it to die.
I see that one other person had this exact same problem. I would love to know what the problem is, so contact me if you have an idea (It's pretty simple to find my web site).
Fortunately, I already had another good router (3rd brand) to replace it with, so I'm still online. And I just bought an additional router (4th brand), at a very good sale price, to have as a backup.
