50ft cat6 Ethernet Cable for Router & Xbox 50' 50 ft Review

Incompetence in maintaining the website is one of the clues by which I evaluate business that I am going to purchase from.
If the picture of the product is not consistent with the verbal description and the verbal description of the product then from that seller I will not buy.

100 FT (100ft) CAT6 XBOX 360 Elite , PS3 Cable, RJ45 Ethernet Snagless Molded White Review

My son asked me to buy him this snagless ethernet cable for his XBOX 360. He uses it to run a signal from my computer to his room for playing online. He also uses it for running to another XBOX for system link LAN parties. The wire was brand new, was a true speedy CAT6 as promised. It has the gold plated connectors which are supposed to conduct the signal better. He says it really seems to move data faster than our previous CAT5 cord. It has nice smooth molded ends and male connections on both ends, what we needed to hook his XBOX into my router. It can also be used as a router cord, or for a PS3. We had previously bought a cord of the same size, different brand in a blue color... and it smelled funny. It sounds weird but the blue one had a terrible odor. This one did not have any odor at all. It arrived fast, wrapped in store packaging, and we were pleased with the seller. I hope this helps you.

NETGEAR WPN824NA Wireless Mimo Router Review

I have sitting in my garage, a pile of recently purchased routers which have all become dust catchers after hooking up this WPN824 and the accompanying wireless cards. I read the reviews here at Amazon and noticed the negative ratings did not mention whether they were using RangeMax cards on their wireless devices so I thought I would take a chance.
I have both RangeMax and other older "g" cards and the RangeMax cards make a huge difference though the other "g" cards still work better than our previous Linksys and Netgear systems did. Our router is in a back room with the wireless systems through two walls in the front room in the house, and for the first time in years we get a good solid connection to our wireless devices. I should also note that we placed the router on a non-metallic box away from other electronic devices and that seemed to help quite a bit. I am going to purchase a WGXB102 Netgear extender kit to see if it helps the other cards, though I see it is limited to 54Mbs, so I am not sure if it will help the RangeMax system or not, but figured it is worth a try considering the great reviews the kit is receiving. Anyway, I highly recommend this RangeMax system.
PROS: Great range and speed. Nice design.
CONS: The blinking lights cannot be turned off at night and light up the whole room like a disco ball.4-12-06 Update:
There is a problem and Netgear doesn't seem to want to fix it. They do not address it on their forum nor will they respond in an email. Many users (myself included) are getting random network disconnects which are requiring a reboot of the router. It is not fun. The firmware has not been updated for a very long time. Also, in the version 2 model (identified by a v2 on the model number - there is now even a v3), you can now turn the disco light off.

NETGEAR WPN824NA Wireless Mimo Router Overview

The NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router lets you easily set up a wireless network in your home so you can share a single internet connection with everyone in your household or office at speeds up to 108 Mbps. Using MIMO technology, the access point offers superior range and eliminates "dead spots" in your home or office.
Beautiful Design and Easy Setup The WPN824 is a very attractive unit with a white exterior and rounded edges. An included plastic stand lets you stand the router on its edge to take up less space. Since the antennas are built in, there are no protrusions extending out of the case, maintaining a clean, elegant form factor. A vertical stand is included for more placement options.
The WPN824 makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your DSL modem, cable modem, or other network connection into the router. An installation wizard guides you through the setup process step-by-step.
The WPN824 employs a web-based interface for configuration, and the router will automatically do the initial setup by getting your DNS settings and determining your IP address. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your router will always be up-to-date.
Fast and Secure The WPN824 supports the 802.11g standard but extends it with Smart MIMO technology that incorporates intelligent internal antennas, allowing it to detect interference from home devices such as microwaves, and adjusting itself accordingly. The upshot is speeds up to 108 Mbps with a longer range and a lack of "dead zones" in your home. When used with NETGEAR's adapters, it can provide up to 500,00 square feet of uninterrupted coverage. You will see the difference when you download music, stream video, or make internet telephone calls. If you still have computers that use 802.11b, don't fret as the router is backwards compatible with the older wireless standard and can be set so all your computers can connect to the network and the WGR614 will automatically figure out the connection type and work accordingly.
In addition to wireless access, there are four 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back for connecting computers to the network via a fast wired connection.
The WPN824 offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Double firewall protection keeps your network shielded from outside attacks and Network Address Translation (NAT) hides your PCs and files from outside snoopers. To ensure the security of your wireless data, both 40/64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption is available, as well as WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). You can also use MAC address authentication to allow only authorized users onto the network and Wireless Access Control (SSID) to identify authorized wireless network devices.
Keep Tabs on Kids This router is an especially good choice for parents as it allows settings to log all sites that are visited, lets you block specific sites based on whether it contains specific keywords, and lets you set time schedules for certain computers to work.
The NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router is backed by a 1-year warranty.
What's in the Box WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router, power adapter, Ethernet cable, setup guide, setup CD, vertical stand, warranty/support information card.

NETGEAR XAVB101 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit Review

Have had Directv for years. Felt it was about time for me to upgrade to one of their new products......I think technology has left my old brain in the dust! Anyway, I got the HD DVR, which is capable of VOD (video on demand). To use this service it requires a hook up from the internet router to the Directv receiver. Well, my router is in the den and no where close enough to the new HD equipment. I really felt that the digital video recorder and the receiver would be the extent of my use. I was reading about the Netgear Powerline Adapter and was hoping it would solve the VOD hookup problem (terrible to have something and not be able to use it). Was thinking I would have to call someone in to help set this up, as my lack of understand electronics would amaze anyone. The product arrived, hardly any instructions. The two units plug into a wall electrical outlet, one in each room. The one in the den plugs into the Linksys wireless G router with the supplied Ethernet cable, the second unit plugs into an electrical outlet near the TV and the satellite box, hooked up with a second Ethernet cable. Now the unbelievable part of the story----the whole thing works and I did it myself! I am bragging because I have a problem screwing in a light bulb. Now, thanks to the Powerline AV kit I have video on demand, which I thought I would never get to use. I am sure if you can plug in a toaster you will have no problem hooking this up. Hope I didn't bore you with this, but you must understand this is a major accomplishment for me.

NETGEAR XAVB101 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit Overview

The award-winning NETGEAR XAVB101 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit includes everything you need to extend a network connection using the electrical wiring in your home. With this kit, you can network your game consoles, PCs, DVRs, network storage devices, and other components without suffering from weak wireless signals or unsightly cables running through your home. If you're looking for a fast, easy, and reliable way to provide Ethernet connectivity to the farthest reaches of your home, then this kit is the perfect solution.
Plug-and-Play Setup Gets You Going Fast A PC Magazine Editor's Choice, the Powerline AV is a snap to set up. Then plug thesecond XAV101 adapter into any electrical socket that's located near the device you want to network. When you connect your device into the XAV101, it will be connected to your network.
It's as simple as that. There's no software to install, no passwords to remember, and no configuration whatsoever. And you can easily create more network connections throughout your home by simply installing additional adapters.
If you wish to make more network connections, you just have to purchase and connect additional NETGEAR XAV101 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapters.
Fast Network Connection for Media Streaming The Powerline AV supports the Homeplug AV protocol and delivers up to 200 Mbps network speed, fast enough for high-quality HD video streaming, music streaming, gaming, and VoIP (Voice-over-Internet Protocol) telephone calls. The Powerline AV Ethernet adapter is perfect for devices such as TiVo, Slingbox, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, networked televisions, and more.
Push-Button Security for Extra Safety Unlike wireless connections, a Powerline network connection is secure. The XAV101 supports 128-bit AES encryption. Setting up a secure connection with the Powerline is as simple as pushing a button. And for the ultimate in convenience, the Powerline also features three different colored LEDs that give information on Power, Network Status, and Ethernet connections.
Each adapter measures 2.83 x 3.86 x 1.57 inches (WxHxD) and is backed by a one-year warranty.

Qwest Actiontec PK5000 DSL Modem 4 Port Wireless Router Review

I installed the PK5000 to replace an older Qwest modem. Installation was ok, speed was ok, and very few problems for 10 months. Then it started dropping wireless connections, requiring a power cycle to recover.
Then it stopped allowing access to all but 1 of my wireless computers, even after power cycling. And the 1 it did allow was losing connections up to 6 times a day. Then it started losing the DSL connection about every 2 or 3 months, which can only be corrected by power cycling it numerous times, until it re-engages. I spent several hours on the phone and email with support, but it didn't resolve within 2 calls, so I stopped messing with them.
I disabled the wireless feature, and connected a Linksys wireless access point I still had from the system it replaced. The PK5000 still drops the DSL link every few months, but I'll tolerate that until I feel like I've gotten my $100 out of it. The designers of this one need to go back to school.

Cisco-Linksys Dual-Band Wireless-N Gaming Adapter Review

I have this product connected to my directv hd receiver to download VOD content. If the installation software is not able to detect the device during the installation process, then follow these steps (I had to perform these steps when I called Linksys for assistance. I wish they had just documented the steps instead):
1. Quit out of the installation software (keep the adapter connected to your pc)
2. Assign a static IP to your pc (if you do not know how to do this, then call Linksys or google it). The static ip settings should be:
ip: 192.168.1.50
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.1
leave dns settings as is
3. Open up your browser and type http://192.168.1.250 in the address bar. You will now see a log in page
4. Log in with admin/admin
5. Now assign a static IP to the adapter
ip: 192.168.1.250
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.1
6. Now go to the wireless settings tab and enter in your SSID and WEP/WPA Key. Make sure you select the correct authentication type
7. You will now need to reboot the adapter (it will ask you to do so)
8. Once the device is back up, go back to the http://192.168.1.250 page and log back in. Double-check to make sure your settings were entered in correctly. The wireless light should light up on your adapter.
Tip: Before you connect it to your console/receiver, you can test to make sure the adapter can connect to the internet. Switch off your wireless connection on your pc/laptop and connect the adapter to your pc via the ethernet port. Try accessing the internet and if you can, then the adapter is all set.
Good luck.
p.s. the main reason I detailed out the steps for the "advanced setup" is so that people know that it is still a straight-forward process, so no need to be afraid if you won't have the plug-and-play experience.
another tip. if you are still having issues, then try changing the channel on your router (although you should not have to if all your other wireless devices are working well on that channel).

TRENDnet 450 Mbps Dual Band Wireless N USB Adapter TEW-684UB (Black) Review

We recently bought 2 of these for system upgrades for our personal computers.
The units are pretty compact - only slightly bigger than the old wired antennae for our old PCI G-band cards. The software installed quickly and easily in Windows 7 Home Premium. I really like the detail in the Trendnet application software showing the connection speed (initially was >350Mbps with router about a room and a half away). I was online in

TRENDnet Wireless N Gaming Adapter TEW-647GA (Black) Review

First off, I had been keeping my eye out for a cheap alternative to the 360's wireless adapter for sometime now, and when I saw this unit as apart of Amazon's lightning deals for $30 I couldn't pass that up.
Before buying this unit, I was sure to peruse for reviews to see other peoples' luck with the item and was left a bit confused on how the product would perform. After playing around with the various settings and getting it to work, I want to just clear the confusion on how this will perform. Also, I have a Bachelors in Computer Networking, not that that means anything, but I have had a good bit of experience playing around with different routers/switches and while reading through the reviews I was left baffled by the varying contradicting opinions of the product.***On a side-note, these types of At Home networking devices are aimed at ease-of-use and my experience had very little effect on how much more/less difficulty I had getting the product to work other than enabling me to filter out the weaker/inane reviews of the product.
Let me clear up the marketing confusion first. This item is a Wireless adapter. IT WILL ALLOW YOU TO CONNECT VARIOUS ITEMS WITH AN ETHERNET JACK TO YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK. That means if you have a desktop with an ethernet jack in the back that you would like to be able to hook up to your WIFI without stringing it to your router, this will work. For the "gamer's" that for some reason this item is targeting(most likely the xbox 360 owners), this item works flawlessly and comes strongly suggested given a few caveats(i.e a bit more cumbersome than Microsoft's options Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter A/B/G Networks Only,Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter A/B/G & N Networks given that it has to be plugged into an electrical outlet).
I'll try to give you guys a step-by-step run through of how the configuration process worked for me.
First, I plugged it into an outlet and connected an ethernet cable from my PC to the unit(for the non-techies out there, this should work the same regardless of the Operating System you're on).
Second, I popped in the CD that came included and loaded the router setup software off of the CD. This step was a breeze given that there was no installation of anything onto your computer, as other reviewers had falsely alluded to.
Once in the router setup software, I did run into a few odd hiccups that slowed the overall process. The software was able to find the device right away and I was off and running setting up the unit, although almost every time I hit OK or Next through the prompts, I was returned with something like "Error, the changes were not made" though they were... Other than that, the setup was pretty quick and painless and should be no problem to those that dread anything techie like many of those in my family, given that they read the manual and follow the instructions. And once you have it setup to your wireless network, it'll pretty much connect any of your devices that has Ethernet port to your wireless without having to run through the setup process again. All the settings are saved so you can just move the unit anywhere. As long as you don't tweak anything in your router, this unit should be able to be unplugged and moved around as much as you like and still connect you every time.
**My issues with the strange contradictory error messages were solved once I upgraded to the latest firmware
As for performance, this unit has worked flawlessly for my needs. I was playing Left 4 Dead 2 and a few other games through it and had no significant lag or difference between playing through this unit over playing it hooked up to my router with an ethernet cord. I also tried streaming a few movies from my PC, and again, it worked flawlessly while I fast forwarded/backward and skipped chapters. Though I have yet to try streaming anything HD from services like Netflix, I don't imagine anyone would have any problems given the much more than sufficient bandwidth that this router provides as long as you have a capable internet connection from your Internet Service Provider. I also unplugged my computer from the router and plugged it into this unit just for kicks and, unsurprisingly, it works just as it should.
The device itself is surprisingly small and sleek, though it is a bit of a finger-print magnet. Something of note too, is at the top of the router lies a Wifi Protected Setup button(WPS) that I'm guessing would make the process even easier by eliminating the need for the PC setup process if your router has support for it, mine did not so I can't comment on that.
Overall, I would strongly recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheap way to connect their devices up to their wireless network. Even if I hadn't gotten it on Amazon's sale, knowing what I know now about it, I would gladly by this unit again. That's my 2 cents anyways and I hoped it helped.

Microsoft Wireless-G Xbox Adapter Review

....Ridiculously easy to set up. Actually ,the XBOX system did most of the work for me. It detected and configured most of the network info itself from my existing 802.11g wireless network. The hardest thing was typing the 26 digit WEP code for my wireless network.I just followed the step-by-step instructions and was online within minutes. Piece of cake.
I was a little concerned about the signal strength with my Base Station being two rooms over , about 35 feet away with multiple electronic devices along the way, and no real line of sight, but my fears quickly disappeared when I checked my network speed on the XBOX and found it steady at 54 Mbps with a Very Good to Excellent signal.Fantastic.
Online gaming on the XBOX is phenomenal with the Microsoft Wireless-G Xbox Adapter. The game play is flawless. It's as if your playing with that person in your living room right next to you. There was no laggy or choppy gameplay, just really really smooth. I love this thing!!
Just take the time to read the instructions one step at a time and you'll be playing before you know it. I look forward to playing you on XBOX Live.

CAT6 Xbox 360 Elite 15M (50FT) Network Cable (For Xbox LIVE) Review

This cord is a double ethernet cable stretching a long fifty feet. I use this cord to connect my Xbox 360 console to my modem in another room. It has a very fast green bar connection on all the games I play online. When using a device on the same network it tends to only slow down a bit and is usually still playable. I would recommend this as a cheap alternative to buying a Wireless Adapter. It works superbly and gets the job done.

Belkin F5D7330 802.11g Wireless Ethernet/Gaming Adapter Review

I bought this product looking to get either my TV (Panasonic TH-50PZ850U, which has IPTV) or my Direct TV HD DVR connected back to my wireless network. While my original idea was to connect this device to an Ethernet switch unit and connect both units through the F5D7330. That didn't pan out as expected and isn't the reason why I rated this product with 2 stars, it didn't work as planned because an Ethernet switch box is NOT a managed switch or hub, that was just a moronic misstep by me, not the F5D7330.
So let's get back to the F5D7330, shall we?
The Good:
- The device is small, lightweight and its swivel antenna in the back of the unit makes it a nice addition for the space channagled media centers. If you have an unsecured network, with limited interference from other unsecured networks, this device will work right out of the box. Just connect it to the device with the provided Ethernet cable, press the autoconnect button and your wired Ethernet device should be up and running on your network.
- However, when you need to set the device up on a secure network (which you really should) or you have multiple networks available and need to select your and not your neighbors, then this is where the device really falls apart and earns its two stars.
The Bad:
- The setup for secure networks or selecting the correct network, to say the least is very frustrating. The manual is sparse and not well written, the "wizard tool" that Belkin provides is spotty, sometimes it works, sometimes it didn't. On most occasions, the wizard could never find the device, even after restoring the factory defaults and setting up the laptop correctly.
- Then there's the manual setup, which you really need to use in most cases. Unfortunately is one of the most vexing processes I've come across. You have to connect the device to a machine which isn't on the wireless network and you have to modify your TCIP/IP settings to get to setup page (which true of nearly any AP/Bridge device). Once at the setup page, you can select your network, enter an encryption key and make modifications, i.e., passwords, IP address, etc... The problem is that device setup page wouldn't load on several occasions and accessing the setup page after it's on your secure network was a chore too.
The Ugly:
- The biggest issue I had with this device was that the device would wander off my network from time to time. This wasn't due to a power cycle or a system reboot. I would setup the unit on my secure network (select my network, provide the access key, etc...), identify it on the DHCP server. After a while, I would remote back into the device setup page using the IP address I assigned or the DHCP server assigned (trust me I tried it both ways) and I couldn't get the setup page to open. I had to manually remote back into the unit and found the device on an unsecured nearby network.
- I spent so many hours just trying to keep this device stable and on my network. In summary, if you have an unsecured network with limited interference from other unsecured networks and you need "plug and play", then this device should work okay. If you need something more, pass this unit up.
During my search for a better device, I came across the newly introduced D-Link DAP-1522 Ap/Bridge Wireless N device (this replaced last year's DAP-1555). It was hard to find, most retailers we're out of stock, but found one with Beach Audio (through Amazon). It cost ~ $100 and was the right device to purchase. Out of the box, setup and connected to my secure network all under 20 minutes.
Even if you only need one Ethernet port, the DAP-1522 will future proof your setup for a while if you need to add additional wired Ethernet devices. Which we all want to anyway, right?
http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=663
- Supports 4 wired Ethernet devices
- 4 port gigabit switch w/ jumbo frame support
- can be used as a bridge or AP. It can also be set "auto" detect.
- Supports new N wireless devices and legacy a/b/g devices
- can operate in 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz
- supports all current security standards
- Easy to read and follow documentation
- default IP address for the device is 192.168.0.50, so networks already on 192.168.0.xx, the device can be accessed within the existing network without requiring modification (if you use this network scheme).

Cisco-Linksys WGA11B Wireless-B Game Adapter Review

Okay, first of all I'm hot on linksys (see my other reviews). I used to do network stuff for a living - don't anymore, but I have always been impressed with Linksys (compared to Netgear, DLink and Microsoft) for the consumer market. Their stuff is by and large (prosumer) - it has some good pro features without having to be a rocket scientist to configure the thing. Now that Cisco owns them - it's even a better deal as Cisco has been putting some nice features into all of linksys's products. While the tech support guys at linksys all need an attitude adjustment (they are a surley bunch) - the products often don't require tech support... so I suppose it is a good-news, bad-news, kind of thing...
But this sucker was PLUG AND PLAY for all intensive purposes. There are a few things, however, I think people should know in order to set this up:
a) You probably want to turn off all WEP and MAC filters. You can turn them back on once you get the sucker id'ed on the network and talking... but for now, leave it off.
b) You probably want to turn ON your SSID (again, makes it easier for the thing to install out of the box.)
c) You probably want to know what your broadcast frequency is on your WAP. If you are using a linksys WAP it is found on the admin screen regarding security. You need to look for the broadcast ID channel (default is six). That is the channel you want to tune the WGA11B. However, what I really recommend that people do is avoid "ad hoc" mode entirely and set the WGA to In mode (looks kind of like 1n on the WGA display) - this is infrastructure mode. Infrastructure mode is what you want to use if you are using a broadcasting router/switch/bridge access point (like the linksys Wireless-B, G, WAP11, etc.)
d) Make sure you know what type of cable you are using to connect it. The cable that comes with the broadcast bridge unit (the WGA) is actually a CROSSOVER cable. This was a bit surprising to me (not that they are hard to make, just, you rarely ever get one from someone - you always wind up making them). You'll know you have the switch in the right position when the WAN light (the little symbol that looks like a circle with two lines in it) lights up GREEN.
e) If you are not already, I'd set up DHCP for the moment. The bridge is default configured to try and connect via DHCP. If you don't have DHCP configured, I don't know what it is going to try to do default IP static (probably 192.176.1.1 if it is like other linksys products). Save yourself the headache and do DHCP.
Okay - otherwise, this sucker is easy as pie to set up. Plug it in to your LAN adapter (I have PS2 so it is a little box on the back of the game thing - don't know about Xbox). Then plug the cord into the WGA. Turn the WGA on and set it to the channel of your WAP. It should start talking IMMEDIATELY. If not - you have done something wrong.
The CD for the PC is interesting. Like most linksys products - it looks nice and is full featured. You won't need the CD for configuring the WGA unless you plan on using WEP.
The infrastucture mode is really fast. I must say that I play online alot.... and this connection point on PS2 shows virtually no lag. I don't know what Sony did via their gaming networks - but this sucker runs QUICK. Like I said, virtually no lag.
The real bummer is that about 99% of the games out there are not multiplayer yet. The ones that are, however, are really fun to play. I play MOH:RS, Desert II, and a few others online. The games are quick paced. To really take advantage of it, however, you might want to go "full bore" and invest in a USB headphone/mic set so you can "talk to people". Also, the USB keyboard might be a nice feature too... although I don't have that...
I've seen quite a few game adapters out there (do a search on Amazon - you will see). This is the best one I've seen for the money.
One last thing - I'd forget "Wireless G" adapaters. Again, unless your connection is like a T3 line straight to the house (which 99% of most people do not have) - you're only as fast as your smallest connection - which is likely to be the ADSL/Cable router connection. Comcast is 3MB - which I NEVER get (even burst inside Comcast's net). So B is MORE than enough bandwidth. I heard some guy at Best Buy trying to talk up a Wireless-G adapter saying he would get "better performance" - and while that is true.. it's like putting brand new wheels on a car with an underpowered engine... yeah, it will look better... but it won't go faster.
See you out there...

Cisco-Linksys WGA54G Wireless-G Gaming Adapter Review

This took me about 2 hours to set up, after about 20 attempts. The hardware works fine, but both the setup utility and the operating manual are poor and only handle connecting to simple networks. I have a non-standard (read: I didn't let Microsoft set up my network automatically) network and a Linksys Wireless G router, with 128 bit WEP (encryption) as well as MAC filtering set on. (My neighbor across the street also has a wireless network, which I didn't know until I started fooling around with this one.)
In essence, if you use a router gateway to the net (which you absolutely should for its inherent hardware firewall capabilities) and you use wireless encryption (which you absolutely should to make it difficult for a techie neighbor from eavesdropping in on your network) you must set this device up manually. Not only that, but you have to set up your game machine network settings manually as well.
First, routers usually also act as DHCP servers (meaning that they'll automatically give an IP address to anything logging onto the network). That means that unless you give the device a static IP address you're never sure which address your game machine will have when it boots up. The same thing is true of the WGA54G. Unless you specify a proper static IP address and netmask, it won't connect. So you have to give both the game machine and the WGA54G (different) static addresses within the range of your local network and which don't conflict with any existing devices.
Secondly, if you do MAC filtering, you need to realize that the WGA54G has TWO ethernet adapters: the wired one (which you stick the cable plug into) and the wireless one (that connects to the antenna). The MAC address of the WIRELESS device must be included in the filter settings of your router, or it'll be blocked. Linksys doesn't make it clear how to find that address (it gives you the wired MAC address on the label), but the wireless MAC device is one of the two MACs you've got to include in your
router's filter list. (Hint: it's one digit higher than the wired MAC address -- just add 1 to the last two hex digits). The other MAC address needed is of the IP adapter contained in your game device (or attachment). That you have to obtain from your game network setup screens. I'm not completely sure why the WGA54G's wired adapter address isn't needed, my guess is that since it doesn't make any packet requests of the wireless router (interacts only with the game machine) it's not "seen" by the router.
You'll have to all of this by logging into the WGA54G's built in HTTP (web) server interface and your router's interface, not with the setup software on the disk.
Finally (on the Xbox, anyway), you've got to specify another static IP address for the game adaptor AND specify the router address as the DNS server (remember it allocates IP addresses for connected devices and stands between you and the internet, translating your network requests to the outside world.
If this sounds like Greek to you, well you're in good company. But this device is not inexpensive and is promoted as being easy to use.
It may be that Linksys can't tailor its software to every situation, but they can certainly write better documentation to help novices cope with the issues raised by slightly more complicated local networks. I also think that its odd that a wi-fi "G" device doesn't support the newer and more secure WPA encryption standards (which Linksys certainly includes in its wireless routers). That means that you will have to run your whole network on WEP encryption if you have this device set up, because WPA devices can't coexist with WEP encryption. WEP can be hacked, and WPA basically, cannot (unless you're a lot spookier than the average wardriver).
Yeah, it runs kind of hot, and yeah its LED lights are kind of strange, but who cares about that? The problem with this device is that it seems to have been shipped too early and because it's a game device is not being seriously supported or updated by Linksys in the same way that they'd support a "serious" device.
Like I said, the hardware seems to work fine (haven't experienced any of the dropped signals others report here), it's the software and documentation that's lacking.
Is there a better alternative? I don't know, I don't have the money and time to find out and I got this puppy running, so I'm movin' on to other things. I do know that Linksys is a decent manufacturer and can do better.

BLACK 100FT CAT6 CAT 6 RJ45 PATCH ETHERNET NETWORK INTERNET CABLE 100' FT Review

This patch cable is definitely not stranded copper. If you look at the end of the connector it is not copper colored, it is silver colored. I might detect a slight hint of copper color at the right angle though, so it may be copper clad aluminum, so be gentle with it at least if you choose to get it.
That said, it is Cat6 and is marked as "TIA/EIA 568B.2-1 UTP CAT6". I tested it while still coiled up with a cable certifier, and it tests good for 1000Mbps. But I don't have a true known-good copper 100ft cat6 patch cable to compare NXT/FXT and attenuation in a less than perfect environment.
2-stars off for false product description / inferior materials to stated specs.

Cisco-Linksys WGA54AG Game Adapter 802.11A/G 54 Mbps Review

At $50, it's a steal for what this product does, right? Well, sort of... I purchased this device in order to allow my desktop machine to run Linux and connect wirelessly to my Netgear wireless router, thus bypassing all of the issues with wireless and Linux. I expected a nice setup process; connect the adapter to my NIC, configure some properties, and be off and running. I was wrong. Wrong in the form of a three hour session of head-versus-keyboard style troubleshooting. Hopefully this review will shed some light on this mysterious device.
Let's just get it out of the way that Linksys's customer support is nonexistant. Forget trying to call them. Also, the provided documentation is submoronic at best, and provides absolutely no information on troubleshooting. I had to figure everything out myself.
This thing is a nightmare to configure. I unpacked the unit, connected the power, and plugged into my NIC. Interestingly enough, my computer didn't automatically obtain an IP. After checking my TCP/IP settings, I reconnected and power cycled the thing a few times. Still no dice. As my frustration was building, it mysteriously connected! Awesome! I got no further than logging into the web interface, and it disconnected as mysteriously as it connected. I have no idea why it was designed like this, but it seems that you need to have a preexisting wireless connection for the thing to connect using DHCP!! The manual vaguely suggested plugging the thing into a router, so I tried that. Not only did I not connect, but my router wigged out several times, requiring me to restart it.
I finally figured out how to resolve all of these problems. It seems that since I have a netgear router, and the game adapter uses a static IP that is not in the router's DHCP range, this device behaves erratically when hard wired to the router. So...
1. Before doing anything, even before unpacking the adapter, log into your router and make sure your DHCP range is set to use IP's 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254. Most default router setups (except for Linksys of course) use 192.168.0.x, and this will simply not work.
2. Pray, then plug the adapter into a free port on your router. Nothing horrible should happen yet, so open up a browser and http on over to 192.168.1.250. You should get a login screen, so go ahead and leave the user name blank, and "Admin" for the password.
3. The configuration interface is horrible. Straightforward, but horrible. The "Scan" feature only works half of the time, so you may have to refresh the page a few times before it works. Here, connect to your wireless network by SSID. It should say "Setting Successful," at which point you can unplug the adapter. It will very likely crash your router due to connecting thru wireless at the same time as wired. There are some other options to play around with, but whatever you do, DON'T ENABLE DHCP. Everything else should work as configured unless you have WEP, in which case you're on your own.
4. At this point, you should be able to plug the adapter into the intended computer, and it should work.
Since I got it working, it's been a great little adapter. It's very robust and does everything I need it to. Here are some thoughts on getting it working without having to violate your router:
Since the adapter requires there to be a wireless signal present in order to log in using a standalone computer, you may be able to connect directly to it with a crossover cable. When connecting with a crossover, you have to manually specify an IP. Anything in the 192.168.1.x range should work, subnet 255.255.255.0, no default gateway or DNS servers. Using this method, you should be able to access the web configurator to set the adapter up. I recommend that you change the IP to one in your router's default IP range. Also, you can play with WEP. Again, don't enable DHCP, or your day will get a lot worse. Trust me on this.
