Sabrent USB-RJXT USB Extension Cable Over Cat5e RJ45 Extender adapter - Driverless Review

Works fine - I'm running 150 feet of Cat6e and it connects. BUT it is not USB 2.0 As it happens, I'm OK since what I'm using it for, the devices on the far end are USB 1.1 but I purchased for future proofing, but this was advertised as USB 2.0 when it isn't. Pretty poor. As a USB 1.1 device for $35 delivered over 150 ft - no problems and a deal - I'd still have bought it - just a con to say USB 2.0

NETGEAR WGXB102NA Wireless G Router Wall Pg Review

I use a wireless router in the house with great success. However, the range is pretty weak or my house is too big, and I am pretty sure it's not the latter. As a result, I researched a variety of solutions, none of which seemed too appealing to implement (bridges, wireless range extenders, new RF antenna, etc). It just all seemed too complicated, and I consider myself pretty tech savvy.
Fortunately, I was reading through some tech reviews and stumbled upon the Netgear Wireless wall-plugged router kit. It seemed like it was pretty simple to setup and easy to use. Well, I can report that it is exactly that.
There is no software to install at all. You simply plug in the ethernet cable from the cable modem in one room into the Netgear plug and then plug that into the wall. Check that all three green lights are lit and you are good to go.
The next step is to take the second half of the Netgear plug into the desired room in the house and plug it into an electric socket. When its three lights are lit, you have a connection and are good to go in there. My laptop computer picked up wireless signal immediately and I was surfing the web in no time flat. Basically, it was flawless.
So, WHY am I am only giving it four stars? Two reasons:
First, the wireless range of the Netgear plug is pretty weak. It definitely doesn't have the power of my main wireless modem. Then again, it doesn't have an antenna AND it still works, so it's no big deal; it's just not perfect.
Second, the Netgear plugs need to be plugged in somewhat near each other to function correctly and get the Homelink green light to turn green. When the Netgear plugs were plugged in on opposite ends of the house (what I was hoping for to maximize range), it did not achieve a homelink connection. However, when I moved the plugs to outlets that were closer together (but still outside my wireless routers range), it DID work. So, partial credit again here. While I cna't explain why it did not work, perhaps the electrical homelink signal degrades the farther the outlets are apart.
Anyway, everything is working pretty smoothly now and I am excited that I can get a signal in another area of the house that was not covered by internet previously.

NETGEAR WGXB102NA Wireless G Router Wall Pg Overview

The NETGEAR WGXB102 Powerline Wireless Range Extender includes everything you need to provide wireless access to an existing network using only power outlets. You can now extend an internet connection to even the farthest reaches of your home without a tangled mess of cables.
Elegant Design and Simple to Install The WGXB102 is a kit that comes with two devices, the Wireless Range Extender (WGX102) and the Powerline Network Bridge (XE102).
The WGX102 is a small silver-colored box with rounded edges that has no wires or ports of any sort. Installation is truly plug and play: simply plug the device into the outlet and you have a wireless network originating from that spot.
The XE102 is a similarly shaped box that connects from an existing wired or wireless router to the power line. It then sends a network connection between connected NETGEAR Powerline devices. In addition to the included WGX102, other compatible devices include NETGEAR's XE104, XE103, XEPS103, and XE102, all sold separately.
Fast and Secure The WGX102 complies with both the Homeplug 1.0 and 802.11g wireless standards for compatibility with a wide range of devices. Since 802.11g is backwards compatible with 802.11b, you don't have to worry about your older devices that might not yet support the newer standard. The WGX102 supports 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption as well as WPA so you can be sure your data is safe from prying eyes. Additionally, it has VPN (IP-Sec and PPTP) passthrough, as well as the option to turn Wireless SSID broadcast on and off.
The NETGEAR WGXB102 Powerline Wireless Range Extender is backed by a 2-year warranty.
What's in the Box WGX102 wireless range extender, XE102 Powerline network bridge, ethernet cable, two setup CDs, installation guide, and warranty/support information card.

Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G - Repeater - external Review

I got this unit used from a company that decided to go back to a wired network. This device is usually not needed in a home network and I eventually found I did not need it. All my computers are within a 50 foot range of the wireless router. I did find that it did boost the signal, but it only showed up as a small percentage of gain, about 5 to 10 percent. I think the gain would have been larger if a computer was beyond or near the edge of the wireless router's range. There are two Linksys Wireless-G Range Expanders, both of them have the model number WRE54G, mine also has "version 2" mentioned right after the model number. The difference in the two is significant. Version 2 has an ethernet port below the LED lights. This makes autoconfiguration easy. The other model needs to have the wireless security disabled in order for the "autoconfiguration" button to work. This one gives the option of just plugging in an ethernet connection to the router and then hitting "autoconfigure", holding it until the red LED light turns on. The ethernet cable bypasses the wireless security (both WEP and WPA). This makes a potential headache disappear. However, both of these WRE54G range extenders (version 1 and 2) were created before WPA encryption came out. If the unit does not work, it might need a firmware update. It may be possible to manually configure it, too, by going to the web browser (while the unit is on) and type the following URL: 192.168.1.240 I suspect without the right firmware, when the DCHP rotates that the unit might not update properly and you might need to the configure button every time it rotates (about every 15 to 30 minutes). It seemed one other review reflected this problem. All in all, the unit does what it is supposed to do, which is to boost signal strength to wireless computers within a network that either are outside the range of the router or near the outside edge of the router's range and some signal obstructions are present (including other networks). The configuration needs to have the range expander close to the wireless router or plugged into the router via the ethernet port. I think the unit is only designed to work with a Linksys wireless router, but may possibly work with other wireless routers if one configures it manually (it may still end up having the rotating DCHP problem mentioned earlier but maybe not). Linksys support seems helpful. Many reviews seem to have information posted on them that they got from Linksys support. In terms of how I would evaluate ease of installation. I think for some people it might be easy and for others it might be hard, depending on the firmware, and which wireless router they are using, and whether or not you have the version 2 option of plugging in an ethernet cable to configure it. I give the unit four stars because it does what it is meant to do but may have some issues with a particular network. I mainly wanted to write this review to alert people to the ethernet cable configuration method, since it was not mentioned in any other review and also the need to perhaps update the firmware (especially for WPA encryption). If it does not configure easily, you mean need to work with the manual, the support page, or call Linksys support. I found, for myself, that I just needed to plug in the ethernet cable, push the autoconfigure button, and wait 10 seconds. I double checked my success by checking the URL mentioned above. I checked the signal strength with a software signal meter and by turning the unit on and off to see if some difference registers. Oddly enough, if I put the unit too close to the computer it sometimes weakened the signal. It needs to be a little bit away and to not compete with the signal of those computers that already within serviceable range from the router. I gave "ease of installation" three stars, because it is going to go either way (one star hard or five star easy).

After reading many reviews for similiar items, I finally opted for this to avoid connection problems and additional purchases to adjust for my linksys WRT54GS router. As it states, it it extremely easy...just unscrew antennas and screw these in...simple. Happy with purchase. Great range! I can now connect easily in one of my back rooms which would always disconnect and hesitate...no longer. It is made for the linksys router WRT54GS (version 6) as stated so no problems. Thank you! Quick ship.

Linksys WRE54G WIRELESS-G RANGE EXPANDER Review

I bought this device to work with my Linksys Wireless-G router to provide better wireless to a problem spot in my house. I have a Mac, so the setup disk was useless at the start. My attempts at mannually configuring the device failed, the online articles were not helpful, so I broke down and called Linksys support. I should have done that first thing. After a short wait, I got through to a very competent support person who asked some questions aboutmy wireless network. I needed to update my very out-of-date firmware on my wirless router (which was the problem with my first attempts), then she was able to easily walk me through configuring the device. Best support call I've ever had. Since then the product has worked flawlessly and I have full-strength wireless anywhere in the house.
Good product with excellent support.

Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G Review

If you're having trouble setting it up, definitely call the 800 number as opposed to going online. I tried with three different people through their website online and none could help. Right before I sent it back I decided to try phone support and it got the expander a reprieve. I've copied some instructions that Y.A. Escalante was kind enough to leave in his review, but corrected and elaborated some of the items based on my experience. I would've given this 4 stars, but I deducted 1 for it not having clear enough instructions with its initial shipping. (Would've saved Linksys some headaches)
Here goes:
1-Disable WEP on your Router or AP
2-Hold the auto-configuration button for 30 seconds(if everything goes well both lights on the expander will turn blue) and unplug while still holding button. Plug back in after 10-15 secs.
3-open your Internet explorer browser and type 192.168.1.240 (default ip of expander), a window will pop up. leave the user name blank and put admin as a password (this is default password).
4-make sure that the default gateway and subnet mask settings are identical with your Router or AP,change password on the expander if desired & save settings. (all settings should be correct due to auto configuration)
5-Enable WEP on the expander, once again remember use same settings as in your Router or AP, save settings again.
6-Go to your Router or Ap settings and enable WEP. Bang you're DONE. Enjoy
Hope this helps some of you...if not call the 800 number on the box and be patient. :)

Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G Overview

Expand the range of your wireless network The Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander is the easy way to increase the effective coverage of your wireless network. Unlike adding a traditional access point to your network to expand wireless coverage, the Wireless-G Range Expander does not need to be connected to the network by a data cable. Just put it within range of your main access point or wireless router, and it bounces the signals out to remote wireless devices. This relay station or repeater approach saves wiring costs and helps to build wireless infrastructure by driving signals into even those distant, reflective corners and hard-to-reach areas where wireless coverage is spotty and cabling is impractical. The Range Expander is perfect to help cover large areas in multi-story homes, warehouse environments, public spaces, wireless Hot Spots, and outdoor venues - anywhere you need extra coverage for your wireless network.

Diamond Multimedia 300Mbps 802.11n Wireless Repeater and Range Extender (WR300N) Review

Hallelujah! I now have wireless all over the house (3000 sq ft). I have tried another repeater device (are you listening ASUS?). Worked for a couple of days, never had much of an extended range. It would lose the signal frequently. Finally gave up. Now this one, this is the champ. So easy to set up. Used my laptop. Disconnected my wireless connection. Plugged in the Diamond. Connected the Ethernet cable (enclosed) to the Diamond and the laptop. Opened Firefox. There was the setup interface. A couple of clicks and I was in business. I plugged in the Diamond in the hallway, and now I have a great signal all the way to the far end of the house. Get this one. So easy. More importantly (well, just as importantly) it works. Happy, happy.

Diamond Multimedia 300Mbps 802.11n Wireless Repeater and Range Extender (WR300N) Overview

The WR300N device can take an existing 802.11n wireless signal, repeat and send it to a longer range where it is too far away for the router or access point to reach. It eliminates the cable wires while providing the same reliable network connection. It can repeat and extend the wireless signal from virtually any 802.11n wireless router or access point that is launched on the market. It is backwards compatible with the 802.11b/g router or access point.

D-Link Wi-Fi Booster Smart Beam Dual Band AP (DAP-1525) Review

This Device worked fine for us so not sure what the previous reviewer is having issues with.
The "instructions" are about like all DLINK products really, just like the web gui is for that matter, just ajdust your nic and login and configure.
FIVE minutes to do this at home then, Deployed perfectly to the Irving Dental Office (as Access Point)..
Connect to 192.168.0.50 and configure the Device..
I beleive WPS has to be supported on your current WLAN/LAN in case that was the guys issue.
Range was noticably improved - I went into a large storage closet area to the back wall with the door closed, then outside the office accross into the next business property 25' with the door closed, farthest end from the SmartBeam Radio, and 5 bars in Windows7 the entire time..
Looks good to me,
jc
SO it is a WAP or a Bridge, AND a 4 PORT GIGABIT SWITCH, AND A USB 2.0 PORT, for storage and other devices as well..

D-Link Wi-Fi Booster Smart Beam Dual Band AP (DAP-1525) Overview

The Wi-Fi Booster enables you to extend your existing wireless network, providing coverage to your entire home. The Wi-Fi Booster uses Smart Beam technology to provide your home with complete coverage. Smart Beam seeks out and beams wireless signal directly to your wireless devices. By doing so, you get a stronger signal with less interference and less dropped connections. Smart Beam works in real-time, so you can move around your home with your wireless devices without losing this superior signal.

Innoband HomePlug AV Wireless N Starter Kit Review

The Good: Bridges Ethernet devices and extends Wi-Fi coverage using *existing power lines*. Performance is exceptional.
The Bad: Setup is less than straightforward. Documentation is limited.
The Ugly: The 210P-I1 access point's antenna is poorly designed and fragile.
I purchased this product because Wi-Fi reception in my kitchen (which has a lot of stainless steel cabinets and is far away from our Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router) is poor.
Before setting up the Innoband HomePlug Kit, laptop reception in the kitchen was bad but tolerable. However, a Logitech Squeezebox Duet Wi-Fi Internet Radio we purchased recently was unusable. We had to walk out of the kitchen to use the Squeezebox Controller, and the Receiver in the kitchen simply couldn't keep up with the streaming audio. Synching with our older Squeezebox was impossible because both players would cut out for seconds at a time.
When I purchased the HomePlug Kit, I was worried that ethernet over power lines simply wouldn't work or would perform so poorly that it wouldn't be useful. I was also concerned that the 210P-I1 access point would be annoying to configure or incompatible with my 802.11g devices. Finally, I was taking a chance by buying an unreviewed product from a company that I didn't recognize.
But the HomePlug Kit does just what it is advertised to do. Namely, it bridges Ethernet devices and extends wireless coverage over existing power lines. And it does so with exceptional performance--better, it feels like, than my existing wireless network. In fact, after the 210P-I1 access point had been running for a few minutes, all 5 of the devices that had been using my router's Wi-Fi selected the 210P-I1--automatically.
My one major complaint about the HomePlug Kit is the 210P-I1 access point's fragile antenna, which I managed to snap within moments of removing the device from its packaging. The break is only cosmetic (the wiring is intact even though its housing was comepletely separated from the unit) so I decided to use some super glue rather than go through the hassle of a return. But I hope Innoband will address this design flaw in future revisions of the product.
My second, lesser complaint is that although Innoband effectively promises a plug-and-play configuration, the experience is in truth less straightforward. The main issue I found is that the 210P-I1 access point was not configured to work with my home network (it was using a different subnet and wireless network). Which isn't really that surprising, but I had to exercise some trial-and-error in order to get everything configured as desired.
In order to integrate the 210P-I1 with my home network, I had to:
1. Connect my laptop via the supplied Ethernet cable to the 210P-I1.
2. Configure my laptop for the same subnet as the 210P-I1:
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.210
3. Connect a web browser to http://192.168.1.210.
4. Reconfigure the 210P-I1 with an IP address on my home network.
A. Click "Lan Setting" [sic]
B. Enter an IP address from my home network (e.g., 192.168.0.NNN for addresses ranging from 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255)*
C. Click "Apply"
* Your specific configuration may vary.
5. Reconfigure my laptop for my home network's subnet. Generally this just means using DHCP, but you can use a static configuration like:
IP Address: 192.168.0.NNN
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.XXX
6. Connect a web browser to http://192.168.0.NNN (i.e., the IP address configured in step #4).
7. Reconfigure the 210P-I1's SSID to match my router's existing SSID.
A. Click "Wireless Settings"
B. Change "Network Name(SSID)" [sic] from "innoband" to "mywifi".
C. Click "Apply"
8. Ensure that my router's wireless channel and the 210P-I1's do *not* overlap.
A. Channels 1, 6, and 11 do not overlap
B. The 210P-I1 access point is already configured to use channel 6
C. I reconfigured my router to use channel 11
9. Ensure that my router uses the same encryption and secret as the 210P-I1.
A. Click "Wireless Settings"
B. Click "Security"
C. Choose the "Security Mode" (WEP or WAP) that matches my router's
D. Enter the WEP key or WAP pass phrase that matches my router's
E. Click "Apply"
Admittedly that's a lot of configuration (and the documentation doesn't cover it adequately), but in the end the Innoband HomePlug Kit does exactly what I need it to do. Which is more than I can say for a lot of products I come across.
I plan on ordering another 200P-I1 (the wired device) to bridge more A/V devices like the Samsung BD-P1600 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player.
p.s., Innoband included a black knit watch cap with the HomePlug Kit they sent me. This was a nice gesture (and not a bad cap either).

Amped Wireless High Power 1000mW Wi-Fi Signal Booster (SB1000) Review

I thought I'd write this review so hopefully I can save others some headaches if they happen to have Verizon Fios (internet and TV) and are stuck with Verizon's provided router, Actiontec M1424-WR. If you have both Verizon internet and TV, you more or less need to be a some sort of professional networking guy to figure how to replace or hook up a repeater or whatever is to get more wifi signal around the house. I don't care to deal with hours of headaches and learn a new profession, I'm already good at other things. I wanted an easy fix for this problem.
Amped Wireless High Power Wi-Fi Signal Booster took less than a minute to install. It gave me about 3 bars of signal on my iPhone in my office and 2 bars in the backyard, where I did not get any signal at all. I also used a freeware program called iStumbler to check the wifi signal for an increase. In my office next to the kitchen, where I would get a signal strength of 30% (and repeatedly dropped connections), I had an increase at exactly 70% without no dropped connections.
I also tried the Hawking HiGain Signal Booster version 2 - HSB2 from Amazon, which made a really irritating high-pitched sound. Wife and I could not live with that. So for around $20 more, this device was well worth it. This Amped Wireless antenna gave more signal strength than the Hawkings booster with NO NOISE.
Also note that wifi signals can change drastically from where the antenna is positioned. You need it as high as possible, above furniture. Things like refrigerators or TV's can effect the signal.
Hopefully this antenna will work for you. It did exactly what we needed it to do for us. I spent hours trying to find a solution online. All I found were tech advice which was way over my head.

Amped Wireless High Power 1000mW Wi-Fi Signal Booster (SB1000) Overview

The Amped Wireless High Power 1000mW Wi-Fi Signal Booster amplifies the signal strength of your certified Wi-Fi device to deliver more wireless range and performance. Typical wireless routers, access points and adapters have wireless output powers of less than 50mW. The SB1000 replaces the removable antenna on your certified Wi-Fi device to boost the signal strength by as much as 20 times, to a staggering 1000mW of wireless power. The high gain omni-directional antenna transmits the boosted signal in a 360 degree radius to cover your entire home or office with strong Wi-Fi coverage.

D-Link ANT24-0230 Xtreme N 2.4GHZ Indoor Antenna Review

This antenna does work. It's all in the way you position it. It's design leaves a little to be desired but, if you position it just right, it works. I connected the antenna to my router, ran the cable under my scanner and up through the back so the antenna sits on top of the scanner. My signal went from "Low" and "Very Low" to "Very Good" on both my wireless N equipped PC and Laptop. Considering the router is on the other side of my apartment in my bedroom; some 60 feet away with a wall in between, it's great. I would recommend it.

D-Link DAP-1360 Wireless-N Range Extender Review

It came in the mail yesterday and I had it up and running in about 15 mins. So installation gets 5 stars. And it definitely works as an extender as I am now getting full signal strength upstairs in my bedroom while the router is in the far corner of the basement. All appeared to be good until I started to do more than surf the internet. I couldn't hold a connection to my company's VPN and I kept losing connection when I tried to download podcasts to itunes. I unplugged it and I haven't seen the problem since, so it has to be the extender causing the issue. It not only causes a problem with my laptop upstairs, but any computer on the network. The D-Link forum has several complaints with the same issue, but D-link has yet to respond to these complaints. The closest I saw to a recommended fix was in their Knowledgebase - they recommended changing the "Preamble" setting to "short" (default is "long") for busy networks or for downloading large files. I will try this when I get home tonight and see if this corrects the issue.
UPDATE: 5/26/2010 - I switched the Preamble to "short" and that did nothing to solve my problem. Back to the ol' drawing board! Next stop, tech support. Ugh!
UPDATE: 6/3/2010 - I emailed customer support a week ago and have heard nothing. Also, they have failed to respond to their own customer forum regarding this same issue. Lame, very lame. They leave me no option but to return this item.

Hawking HWREG1 Wireless G Range Extender Review

I purchased this Hawking HWREG1 repeater after a miserable experience with the Linksys repeater. The Hawking unit works perfectly and was very easy to configure. It truly was a 10 minute deal from start to finish. It is extending my Linksys WRT54G wireless network using WPA encryption. You assign the Hawking unit a second SSID (I called mine EXTEND) and then your computer will connect to what it "thinks" is a second wireless network, but everything continues to operate as if you are still on the same network.
I placed this unit on a table that is about half way between the original router and the room with low signal. It is small, and you can easily locate it in an out of the way area. When I use my laptop in the far corner of my house, the original linksys network is still visible as it always was, with a very low signal level. But the EXTEND network has a strong signal, and I just connect to it.
Once connected, you are assigned an IP address from the ORIGINAL Linksys router, and you can ping and communicate with all other devices on your network, even if they are connected to the original network instead of the repeater. So everything continues to work and operate like one network, including shared folders on other computers, printers, etc. I am 100% satisfied with this repeater.
Linksys repeater comparison:
The problem I had with the Linksys WAP54G in repeater mode is that it simply does not work with WPA encryption. It only works with WEP encryption, or no encryption at all. Note that the Linksys website and documents claim that the repeater is compatible with WPA. I can assure you that as of September 2006, up to version 3.04 firmware, the WAP54G access point/repeater does NOT work with WPA encryption. After spending 30 days emailing Linksys tech support back and forth, you will finally be escalated to an engineer that will admit that it doesn't yet work correctly with WPA, but they hope to have it fixed soon! They even sent me some beta firmware, but it did not work with WPA either. Don't waste your time with Linksys, get this HWREG1 Hawking instead. It is easier to configure than Linksys, and works with WPA. Highly recommended.

Cisco-Linksys Media Center Extender Review

It plays our recorded TV, pictures, DVDs ripped to XviD (not DVDs in the player), and music from the other room with an interface that looks just like Vista Media Center. Wife acceptance factor = high. We are using wired ethernet (100) and a 1080p tv via HDMI. The supplied remote is good. Speed of menus is acceptable (even faster, if you turn off transitions in the setup). FF, rewind, pause, etc. are all fine for Live/Recorded HD TV -- looks perfect on our 1080p tv.
XviD files are a little slow to start up on the DMA2100.
I had realistic expectations and we are happy!
NOTE: This note is ONLY for people with a Linksys Etherfast DSL/Cable router. If you have that router, your computer will not detect the DMA2100 unless you also go into the router setup and set Filter Multicast to Disable (which is NOT the default). Thanks for wasting my time, Linksys. After the change, it works great.

Cisco-Linksys Media Center Extender Overview

Sharing your photos, music and movies on your computer with friends and family has been made easy by the DMA 2100 Media Center Extender from Linksys. The device allows you to view digital photos, movies and high definition programs on your TV, and listen to downloaded music on your home theater sound system. It even enables accessing digital content and Internet services from your Microsoft Windows Vista Premium or Ultimate Media Center PC and wirelessly stream it to your home entertainment system. Its single learning remote helps you to easily navigate menus. The media extender uses existing high-speed Wireless-N home network.

Sling Media SlingLink Turbo Powerline Kit ( SL200-100 ) Review

This may or may not work for you. I've got it working in my house. I've got a Netgear router upstairs in my bonus room hooked up to a Charter Cable box. My Dish reciever is downstairs in another section of my house. The Slinglink Turbo works fairly well; however, if I plug anything else into certain outlets in my bonus room, the whole connection basically just fails. So be aware of what you have plugged into other outlets as it might cause the whole thing to fail.

Sling Media SlingLink Turbo Powerline Kit ( SL200-100 ) Overview

The SlingLink Turbo brings network connectivity to any electrical wall outlet, making it ideal for the modern living room with blisteringly fast speeds up to 85 Mbps. With four switched ports, it connects your Slingbox, game console, DVR, computer or anything with an Ethernet jack to your home network. Now you can run high-speed Internet through your existing electrical wiring with a simple plug-and-play connection. Plus, SlingLink Turbo is compatible with any home router.

Hawking HWREN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range Extender Review

I was skeptical about this product due a lack of reviews on the net but decided to take the plunge...
My wireless network consists of a Belkin Wireless N Router (F5D8233-4)using WPA,WPA2 w/ TKIP+AES security and the Hawking range extender has no problem communicating with it.
I chose to forgo the setup CD and went directly to the web interface to set things up. The interface is simple and pretty self explanatory. Out of the box the ip is 192.168.1.240. Login is: admin, pw:1234
Initially I was getting intermittent and/or limited connectivity when trying to connect to the internet; this is usually due to the security/encryption settings so make sure to enter your info carefully to match your parent router exactly. To remedy this here's what apparently worked for me (my security settings were matched up)
-Updated the firmware. Mine came shipped with ver. 1.10 There is a new one out 1.13 that you can find on the Hawking Technology website.
-In the "Advanced Wireless setup" I unchecked the WMM option...possible conflict with parent router?
-Set CTS protect to auto (as suggested in manual)
-Unplug the power for 10 seconds and plug back in.
After that I was all connected!
The am VERY impressed with how much my overall network range has increased, especially considering the 5 or so walls this it has to go through...where there used to be no signal, I have full bars and an excellent signal. In contrast, the belkin g range extender it's replacing did little to improve my range. On a plus note is that you can upgrade the antennas if needed.
Primary use is for my Direct TV HR-21 for VOD. As far as I know there are few marketed "N" options available to do the job...two are:
-Linksys WGA600N- Wireless bridge that reportedly works very well.
-D-Link DAP-1522- includes 4 LAN slots. (I was concerned w/ compatibility issues with my router)
I chose the Hawking because it advertises to work with "any" AP or router and for roughly the same $$ of the Linksys, I can extend the range of my signal too. If I need another LAN port I'll just buy a cheap 10/100 switch.
I can't give it 5 stars because I have no long-term experience with the product.
In short, if you're looking for a "N" WURE solution for your network, give it a try. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
UPDATE 1/15/10...
Well it has been over a year and I am still thoroughly satisfied with this product and has performed flawlessly for me. Over this time I have swapped out my parent router for a D-Link 655 and have added a 10/100 switch to the Hawking to also connect a new PS3 Slim. I am still running the same firmware since I have not had any issues with it; going with the philosophy of, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I'm considering picking up another one when the price is right to further extend my network. On a side note, my apologies for not addressing questions over the year; I didn't select to receive notifications for comments on my review.

eForCity Wi-Fi Booster Antenna for D-link DWL520, Linksys WMP11, WET11, Netgear MA311, or D-link Aps, 2400-2483 MHz, 6ft Review

At first, I wasn't sure if I liked this little antenna or not. There isn't much to it... it's got a connector, a cord, a magnetic base (which is pretty strong by the way) and of course the antenna itself. It didn't seem to give me much of an improvement until I learned how to pick the correct location for it...
The biggest benefit of having one of these is flexibility of placement. With antennas, correct placement is crucial. I bought two: one for my desktop PC and one for my router. These antennas aren't necessarily any more sensitive than the little plastic ones that come with wifi cards and access points, but being able to move the antenna location from behind the PC on the floor (which is where most people with wireless cards have their antennas) to the top of your desk or on top of your monitor makes a big difference right away.
Now, if you are really serious about getting the best performance out of this antenna, I would suggest you download a program called NetStumbler. It will let you see the S/N ratio in dBm and it updates in real-time. This lets you get perfect placement with your antenna. You'd be amazed what a difference an inch to the left or right can make. I have a feeling a lot of people who have problems with aftermarket wifi antennas are not placing them properly.
For $5.54 each plus a couple bucks for shipping, this antenna can't be beat.
