IPEVO S0-20 WiFi Phone for Skype Review

I have been using the Ipevo So-20 Skypephone for over a week now (mine came directly from Taiwan) and I am amazed at how well it works.
Previously I had tried and returned both the Belkin and Netgear Wi-Fi phones because they were full of bugs, the battery life was ridiculous and call quality inferior to Skype calls from a PC. I eventually settled for the now discontinued Linksys CIT-400 and I am quite satisfied with it except that battery life is also poor and it requires an interface (access point)to be connected to your modem/router.
The Ipevo SO-20 is a totally autonomous Wi-Fi Skypephone, all you need is a wireless network (B or G). Compared to its predecessors the Ipevo has the following advantages:
-Li-ion battery: the SO-20 can last up to 3 days off the charger on stand-by, but count on a couple of days between charges in normal use.
-Wi-Fi connection manager: the Ipevo allows you to manage your wireless access by storing favorite networks and their access keys. You can also decide whether it can connect to non-saved networks or only to preferred ones. It supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 encryption (I just think you cannot use it when you have to log-in on a network through a web page, but check the Skype site, I think they have a flat-rate package to access all Boingo hot-spots worldwide).
Wireless range is pretty decent, I never went below 3 bars (out of 5) inside my home.
-Very modern and clean design and the feel is not that of cheap plastic. The screen is very legible, the keypad is backlit, you can adjust the volume with 2 dedicated keys on the side, like on a regular cell phone and there is a headset jack. You can charge the Ipevo either directly from the charger via a mini-USB connection (handy if you need to use it while charging), or by dropping it on the supplied cradle.
Overall the Ipevo SO-20 is an amazing Wi-Fi Skypephone and I highly recommend it.

1000mW 1W 802.11g/n High Gain USB Wireless G / N Long-Rang WiFi Network Adapter - Dongle With Original Alfa 5dBi and 9dBi Rubber Antenna *Strongest on the Market* Review

I'm using this dongle/antenna to connect my media server on the ground floor of my house to a wireless router, which is on the second floor and in the opposite corner of the house. I've used several laptops in this room with many different wireless adapters, as well as a previous media server with built-in wifi card, and all generally get about 2-3 bars (out of 5) of signal in this location.
When I use this product in the same room, and even with one of the same laptops, I get 5 bars of signal, and the utility app says the connection ranges from 98-100% quality! I've streamed all kinds of video content with this new dongle, including HD, and it is amazing how well it works, comparable to plugging directly into the router via ethernet. It also pulls in routers from all the neighbors' houses, which were previously invisible, so I guess we could have free broadband if we really wanted it. The reception is way better than I dared hope for, and I'd buy this product again in a second if I needed another wifi connection for some reason.
In addition, I was surprised at how easily I was able to install the driver, even on Vista. . . when was the last time that happened? I hadn't heard of this company, and I was hesitant to buy from some small company because I've experienced compatibility problems before with obscure drivers working with XP, Vista, even Mac OS. Not this time, I was up and running in a couple of minutes.
One note of caution: the high gain antenna is very long (about a foot) and about a half-inch thick, so it would be cumbersome if you're using it with a laptop or expect it to be portable or unobtrusive. This is not an issue for me, and I guess the size is what makes it so powerful, so it's not a problem with the product, just something to consider in advance.
*** UPDATE 7/15/10 ***
I had some trouble getting this to work when I installed it with a new Windows 7 machine. The driver disk that came with it only goes up to Vista, so I had to download a current version from the Alfa Network site ([...].). Once I installed the new driver, it worked as well as reviewed above. The tricky part was that Win7 recognized the device and the wireless network icon in the taskbar, networking control panel, etc. all said that it was working, even though it actually wasn't. Wish I hadn't been fooled by that, so I'm posting the above link to make it easier for the next guy (or gal).

Medialink - Wireless N Router - 802.11n - 150 Mbps - 2.4 Ghz - NEW Design w/ Internal Antenna Review

Well, now having the need for a wireless N network I did a bit of research into which router I should buy. After reading so many positive reviews, I kept teetering on whether or not I should try this one out... especially since I hadn't heard of the company and the price point was so low. Eventually I figured "what could it hurt" and ordered it. I immediately got an email from the company thanking me for the order which included the support information if needed. That was a nice touch.
The bottom line is that I'm VERY glad I ordered this. Set up was a breeze if you follow the very simple instructions to the letter. I was up and running in minutes.
My other concern was how well it would sing with my Cisco Wireless N Bridge(The Cisco-Linksys WET610N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gaming and Video Adapter)in my living room which is notoriously finicky with non-Cisco product integration. I'm very pleased to report that it immediately started communicating once set up, and has been rock solid for 3 days streaming Hi Def 720p and 1080p video. The signal strength is fantastic and has out performed other routers I have owned in the past. Time will tell how it holds up over the long run. I will update this post if anything goes awry.
Finally as icing on the cake, the router just looks cool. Thats always a happy bonus!
The only negative I could find is that the tech support line isn't 24 hours. Seeing as how I didn't need it, I suppose that really isn't a negative in the truest sense.
I'm a heavy Amazon user who doesn't even write reviews yet felt compelled to for this gem. A Great product, at a great price, and easy set up. Who could ask for more?
*** EDIT 06/14/11 Wow, there are a ton of comments on my review and I thought it would be a good idea to chime in again. Here we are about 8 months after my purchase and the router is still going strong. I have noticed that there was some signal degradation about 3 months in, but I changed the broadcast channel and it cleared up. Whether that was a fix or coincidence I don't know. As far as I can remember it only dropped once and I had to reset it. Not sure what people are expecting, but I thought (and still think) I got fantastic bang for the buck. And to answer some of the people implying I somehow work for the company that makes or markets it: I absolutely do not! I just was pleasantly surprised and wanted to share.

Alfa AWUS036H High power 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g High Gain USB Wireless Long-Rang WiFi network Adapter with 5dBi Rubber Antenna and a 7dBi Panel Antenna and Suction cup / Clip Window Mount - for Wardriving & Range Extension Review

Nearly all Amazon.com reviewers agree, the Alfa AWUS036H is the long range WiFi antenna on the market. But with 3 antenna options to chose from, which is the best setup?
I own the all 3 wi-fi antennas from Alpha: 5dBi omni-directional, 7dBi panel, 9dBi omni-directional. The Alfa AWUS036H with the 7dBi antenna is the best performing set up: Alfa AWUS036H Upgraded to 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g High Gain USB Wireless Long-Rang WiFi network Adapter with 5dBi Rubber Antenna and a 7dBi Panel Antenna - for Wardriving & Range Extension *Strongest on the Market*
With the 5dBi omni antenna, I can get 2-3 bars from a public wi-fi signal a little over 1 mile away (direct line of sight).
With the 9dBi omni antenna, I get only 0-1 bar with dropped signals.
With the 7dBi panel antenna, I get 3-4 bars with the fastest data transfer rates.
I have even tested the 5dBi and 7 dBi side by side and the 7dBi loads web pages in less than 1/2 the speed as the 5dBi antenna.
I have done a fair amount of research before purchasing the Alfa AWUS036H unit. The general consensus is that this unit has much better performance for B and G networks than the newer Alfa AWUS036NH model. But for accessing N networks, the newer model is necessary.
Although I still own the 5dBi and 9dBi antennas, I only ever use the 7dBi panel antenan. It's actually shorter in size and easier to transport than the 5dBi model. Go with the 7dBi - you'll get the best performance.
***** UPDATED COMPARISON *****
Aug 25, 2011: Using Xirrus Wi-Fi Monitor software, I compared the signal strength of this Alfa AWUS036H with the 7dBi panel antenna Alfa 2.4HGz 7dBi Booster SMA Panel High-Gain Screw-On Swivel Antenna or to the new High Power USB-Yagi Plug and Play directional WiFi Antenna 802.11n 2200mW / NextG USB-Yagi Plug & Play 11N Long Range WiFi antenna 2200mW. In nearly every test location, the Alfa rated 1 bar better and -10 RSSI (Receiving Signal Strength Indication) better (with RSSI signals negative numbers are better).
Although the 2200mW Yagi antenna is much larger and twice the power, it pulls in a weaker signal and slower data transfer than the 1000mW Alfa 7dBi panel antenna.
Still this Alfa AWUS036H is the best performing wi-fi antenna on the market. Thank you Alfa!

Sapido RB-1732 Advanced-Performance Wireless-N Router Review

I ordered this outer because I needed to be sure I had good WiFi reception in a back office, so wanted something with a good range. The price made me doubt the long range claims, but was so low I took the chance. I was pleasantly surprised. Great range. I had trouble setting up the router when I got it, and called customer service. They worked with me over the phone, and when I still could not get connected, sent me a new router that they had pretested to be certain it was not an equipment issue. (It wasn't - I just wasn't doing something right. They included a UPS call tag, to return to first router at their expense. Do not hesitate to order this router - or anything from this seller. If there were more than 5 stars, I would give them.

I purchased item to improve web connection to my backyard workshop. It's a big backyard (1.25 acres) and I was getting a very poor signal with my cheap usb WiFi adapter. The new "high power" adapter helped a little but not as much as I expected. I had to relocate the router to a different room of my house so signal was not going through as many walls to really get good results. After moving the router it's now rock solid. Would I buy again? I don't know. My $8 cheap USB adapter might have worked OK if I had tried moving the router first. I guess what I'm trying to say is try other solutions first before spending your hard earned $$ and don't expect this adapter to be a miracle fix.

Dual-band N USB Adapter 300MBPS Push-button Setup USB 2.0 Review

I used this USB client to provide wireless 802.11n to a home theater PC. I simply took it out of the box, plugged it in, waited for feedback that it was working and that was it. No drivers to install, no software to use if you want to use its default 2 GHz radio. To switch it to 5 GHz and use its advanced functions, you need to install the enclosed software, or get the upgraded one from Engenius' website. Note, this is a dual band switchable client, choose either 2 or 5 GHz radios, you cannot use both concurrently. It supports WPS well, so press the AP-router WPS button and then the USB button within 2 minutes, and the two devices will exchange security information and establish a network link.
Pros
Plug and play install: I've tried it on a Gateway box, an Acer laptop, and an Emachines box, all were plug and play. I tested it on XP SP3, Vista 64 bit, and 32 bit, all flawless. While it can be controlled through Windows, the advance functions need its enclosed software
Reliable, I've been using it over 200 hours without a hitch
Does exactly what its says it should do
Speed: I get 60-90 Mbps throughput after extensively tested with a AP router Dual-Band N Router 300Mbps Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless N. With a draft-N router, I get 50Mbps. I use this product as the primary client for the Engenius router, so see its performance for more detail
Blue LED is not too bright, so its good feedback that its working without overwhelming the surroundingsCons
USB dongles have small antennas and placement is limited because its stuck to the USB port. For flexibility, you can buy a USB extension cable, as example Black 6 Foot USB 2.0 Extension Cable, so you can mount the 9801 on the cable, plug the cable to your box or laptop and position it for best reception possible. Not just any extension cable works, the one linked as example doesn't work very well for fast transmissions. Make sure it has good thick insulation, otherwise the throughput will suffer.
Software ergonomics is clunky, but its very functional
No Wifi Certification: not an issue, the Ralink chip set used is certified, and I can log in without problems to a Linksys, Tenda and Engenius router easily
5 GHz has shorter range, so its very sensitive to position if you want the fastest possible speed

BlueProton High-Gain 23dBm WiFi N USB 2.0 802.11n Wireless Network Adapter (b/g compatible) by Gsky Review

I bought this is the fall of 2010. It was a replacement for the built-in 802.11g card for my HP Pavilion laptop, which had failed.
PROS: Installation from the CD was straightforward. You should go there first instead of using the default Windows installation. Speed is decent. Since this is my first 802.11n device, it is talking to my 802.11g access point.
CONS: This adapter is really wide, so that even a skinny USB plug next to it has to touch and angle slightly outward. It doesn't fit at all on the USB next to the power cord.
I asked RealTek for some technical support early on, and have received nothing (not even an automated email acknowledgment) as of a week later. I have since fixed the problem, but there is very little forum chatter about this product. The RealTek support site does not have an image of the installation CD.
The Realtek USB Wireless LAN utility is easy to use I am using instead of the built-in Windows utility.

NETGEAR WNR2000 Wireless-N Router Review

I picked up this router for two reasons: (1) I wanted to upgrade from my Wireless-G to Wireless-N (draft), to make file transfers faster between my computers; (2) I wanted to give whichever router I liked less to my parents, so I could have wifi there when I visit them. My existing router was a Linksys WRT54GS, which had good wireless-G speeds (I couldn't complain) and excellent uptime, stability, and reliability. It's main drawback is that the firmware doesn't have some features I want, such as the ability to set stable IP addresses to my PCs, and it can't be flashed to Tomato or DD-WRT. When I received the router, I decided to replace it, without using the Windows-based setup wizard (networking equipment shouldn't requires Windows), and set it up in the manner of an advanced router user.
First Impressions/Hardware Impressions
This router looks very nice. The lines are clean (there is no external antenna). The plastic is shiny. The lights on the front are stylish. The only thing I didn't like was that the manual said that the unit MUST be used in the vertical position, due to concerns about operating temperature (and probably the internal antenna, too). This is fine and all, but I liked the ability of the Linksys and other routers I've owned to be wall-mounted or positioned horizontally. The router is set up thoughtfully, and I like the on/off switch; I've never seen one on a router before, and I don't intend to use it, but it's nice to be able to turn off a piece of electronic equipment for a change! The packaging was spartan, sensible, and minimal, which I liked.
Initial Setup
The router comes with a CD with a Windows-based setup wizard. As a Mac and Linux user, this made me a bit nervous. Netgear seems to understand this, and helpfully point you toward the help files on the CD-ROM, which in turn point you toward "manual" setup instructions. The instructions were clear, concise, and had clear illustrations. They are minimal, however. They don't outline the capabilities of the router's firmware, which I was very curious about.
Firmware
As far as my Internet research told me, open-source, third-party firmware such as DD-WRT is not compatible with this router. I would love to run alternate firmware on my old Linksys router, but the version I have (version 5 of WRT54GS) doesn't support it. Fortunately for me, this router's firmware has a lot more functionality. Using the manual setup instructions, I found I could connect to the router using the address [...] instead of its IP address, which I thought was a nice touch. (Routers like this one have a web interface, which lets you adjust all available settings from one of your PCs.) The firmware presents you with a three-pane interface. The right-hand pane is context-sensitive help for each function. The contextual help is pretty useful, actually, for intermediate-to-advanced users. Most home users wouldn't look at it, I don't think. Anyway, the first time you connect to the router, it automatically checks for firmware update--a good feature. The best feature of this router, to an advanced user with a home network set up, is IP address reversation: You can force the router to give the same IP address to each of your computers, every time they connect. This is great for home servers, and is so easy to set up on this router, as compared to setting up static IPs on each computer. The router also has Quality of Service (QoS) features, which allow you to shape how much bandwidth is used for internet, voice, instant messaging, video games, and so on. Personally, I don't use this, but I would have loved it back when I was a VoIP customer. There are, of course, many features that I consider standard, such as DHCP and port forwarding. All in all, I was impressed with the stock firmware and don't feel a need to replace it.
Speed
Large (1 GB+) file transfers between my wired Linux server and my wireless-N MacBook are faster than with my old wireless-G router. I'm happy. I can't compare it to other wireless-N routers, though. As for Internet speed, it certainly seems snappy, though it could just be my imagination. I am not sure if it is any faster than my wireless-G router was; if anything, my cable modem is slower than this router can handle, so I didn't expect much change.
What I Didn't Test
I'm an advanced user, and don't mind setting up the wireless network and security myself, through the firmware. Therefore, I didn't test the WiFi Protected Setup feature. I didn't test the wireless range because I have a rather small apartment and it isn't an issue I'm concerned with. I didn't get Quality of Service because I tend to use the Internet for only one thing at a time. I've only had it for a short time, so I cannot comment on stability or robustness.
Remember To
If you buy this router, remember to set a new password for it, set up Wifi security, and change the SSID (the network name) so you can easily identify it!
Verdict
I really like this router's firmware features, and think that I will hold onto it, and pass my Wireless-G router on to my parents. I'm a little concerned about the stability issues that other reviewers mentioned, so I'm going to dock the router one star for now, and revise my review (if I'm allowed to) in several months or so.

VIZIO VBR210 Blu-Ray Player with Wireless Internet Application, Black Review

I purchased this Blue-Ray player from Target 2 weeks ago and love it. I read the reviews on the 220 model after my in store purchase and was really concerned at first but have not experienced any of the issues mentioned in those reviews. I am glad though I purchased the Target 2-year $19.99 replacement warranty just in case.
The Blue-Ray player comes with a set of composite cables included in the box which I used while I was waiting for my HDMI cables. The picture even with just composite cables was great. The Vizio 210 has one HDMI port, one composite video/audio port or one component video/audio port (cannot use composite if using component), one digital coaxial, one usb and one ethernet port.
Wireless setup was a snap and I was connected in 30 seconds. The only annoying thing is that the wireless adapter on the back of the Vizio unit has a red light which flashes continuously. No dropped wireless connections like reported with the 220 model. Vizio recommends using their router but this is no doubt a marketing ploy as any wireless router will work.
The upconverting works really well. We got the new Bruce Springsteen dvd/cd set which includes some really old video concert footage. It looked really dark and hard to see on the regular dvd player but looks much, much better on the Blue-Ray player.
Had no issues playing Blue-Ray movies and while it does take about 10-15 seconds to load the Blue-Ray disc I did not find this unexpected as the Blue-Ray disc contains a lot more data than a regular dvd. Also had no issues stopping and restarting a movie as it remembered where I stopped the disc. This was reported as an issue on the 220 model. It also gave the option to continue from the stopping point in the movie or restart from the beginning of the movie which I like.
There is a usb port on the Blue-Ray. It will play video and audio files contained on an inserted usb thumb drive and will also upconvert those videos files. I have not tried hooking up my laptop via usb yet but will provide an update. I use a 16GB usb thumb drive and the Blue-Ray player displays the usb drive folder structures and file names on the tv so it is easy to find stored media.
I have only used Pandora so far and that has worked really well. I will update this review after I have tried Netflix and BD-Live.
The only odd thing I noticed when I tested this player with hdmi, component and composite cables was that when I use component video/audio cables the zoom settings on my tv did not work correctly even though they worked fine with hdmi and composite cable. In all fairness this could be a tv issue and be unrelated to the Vizio.
UPDATE 1/19/11: Netflix works great and streams very quickly. However there have been a few incidents where the VBR210 froze either during streaming or at movie commencement and had to be powered down and restarted. There were also two incidents where there was severe pixelation and both incidents were resolved by powering down the VBR210 and restarting it after a few minutes. Overall in relation to the number of movies streamed these have not been significant issues and were quickly resolved. Still no issues playing either Blu-Ray or regular DVDs. It does appear though that because this unit does not have internal memory that the USB drive is critical for streaming to work properly. I use a 16GB thumb drive which is approximately 50% full. Also my Cisco-Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster has worked flawlessly with this VBR210.

2000mW 2W 802.11 g-n High-Gain USB Wireless G / N Long-Rang WiFi Network Adapter With Original Alfa Screw-On Swivel 9dBi Rubber Antenna Review

As the happy owner of an Alfa AWUS036H 1000mW wireless adpater, I purchased the Alfa AWUS036NH 2000mW wireless adpater for my second computer expecting to be ecstatic.
Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that the 2000mW adapter has more difficulty finding, acquiring, and maintaining connections to wireless access points than does the less expensive, supposedly less powerful 1000mW adapter.
Regardless of the combinations of cables, antennas, computers, locations, and updated drivers I tried, the 2000mW adapter consistently found fewer than half as many access points and reported far lower signal strength than did the 1000mW adapter.
Assuming that I'd received a defective item, I contacted a customer service agent at DB Roth who politely handled my call and promptly shipped a replacement adapter.
Unfortunately the second AWUS036NH performed just as badly as the first. Since both 2000mW adapters had exhibited the same behavior and the 1000mW adapter performed perfectly (as has been similarly reported by other Amazon.com customers), I have decided to exchange the 2000mW adapter for the less expensive 1000mW adapter.
DB Roth customer service has been extremely helpful. In spite of a brief misunderstanding over shipping charges, Bianca in customer service deserves very high marks.
Sadly, I can't say the same for the Alfa 2000mW adapter.

D-Link DIR-601 Wireless-N 150 Home Router Review

Reviews. from people like me don't really help you consumers much, as I am a tech freak, so I come on here, already knowing what I want to buy, all I will say is that, if you are looking for a wireless router that has great strength over a moderate distance, then the D-Link N150 is for you. It works for just browsing, and gaming alike. I have yet to lose a connection with the massive use I have going on with it.
I have 9 computers, 1 Playstation 3, 2 Xbox 360's and 1 Nintendo Wii, running off of this one wireless router, and even with 80 percent of those up at one time, I have never been dropped, and have seen full connectivity each time, with perfect latency in between. No lag, Nor overlay.
I live him an apartment, with 3 people.

Belkin N450 Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router (Latest Generation) Review

Although I am a proficient computer user, I am not much of an expert in networking. In the past, I have had several routers (Cisco, Linksys, etc.) that required way too much troubleshooting for my level of expertise. So far, this router has been extremely simple to use and hasn't dropped my connection at all. Given the track record we have had with other routers in my home, that alone is a huge improvement. I also tested out the "Self-Healing" app that does diagnostics on the network, to see what it was like, and it seemed to be effective and intuitive (although since I haven't had any real trouble yet, I don't know how it would perform under pressure). The dual-band is, as other reviewers have stated, an advantage for a home like ours that has a wide variety of wireless devices throughout the house. The speed was not notably faster than my old router, but, then again, my old router would drop the connection periodically, so I really can't complain. Obviously there are higher-end routers on the market with more bells and whistles, but this one should suit a typical household just fine.

Belkin N450 Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router (Latest Generation) Overview

The Belkin N450 DB Wireless Dual-Band N Router gives you strong performance for video streaming. Featuring exclusive MultiBeam technology and dual-band speeds of up to 150Mbps + 300Mbps, the Belkin N450 DB gives you maximum throughput and multi-device coverage throughout your home.

AT&T USBConnect Velocity Broadband USB Modem (AT&T) Review

I've had this data card for nearly a year now and used it all around the country. The connection has been incredibly unreliable. Some times webpages and emails load fine but most of the time the connection is so slow it's unusable. Many times I end up paying for an internet connection just to get access to email. In fact, the reliability is so bad I spent 10 minutes trying to get a good enough connection to write this review. In many instances the signal strength shows to be excellent but the card will not connect to any website or download any email. In other instances the connection manager suddenly terminates the connection and tells me no wireless device is present even though I can clearly see it is still plugged in and the indicator light shows I'm connected. When it does finally connect, the connection is typically more like a dial up connection rather than a low end DSL connection. The last speed test I did showed my connection at .06 MB/s with a latency of anywhere between 347ms to 1818ms...the at&t network status was reporting 34ms of latency at the time on their internal network. In another instance the latency was so bad the server eventually gave up testing. Support from AT&T has been dismal in getting this problem fixed. I've spent as long as an hour and a half on the phone with tech support and got no real resolution.
Bottom line for me would be to find another solution. Maybe the problem is with the AT&T network rather than the data card itself. There's no real good way to tell and AT&T has no interest in admitting fault. Until the issues get resolved though...I would stay away from this card.

NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax Wireless-N Notebook Adapter Review

Well, I finally learned the secret of how to get the best performance from the 11n wireless router: use this interface instead of the built-in one. Now, I can connect from the family room downstairs and get the full rated speed. Before, the best I could manage using the built-in Intel interface was half that. This interface connects on two separate channels to achieve the max. Setup was easy, even on Vista.

NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax Wireless-N Notebook Adapter Overview

The NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax Next Wireless-N Notebook Adapter makes it easy for you to provide blazing-speed wireless internet access to your notebook computer, letting you surf the web, check email, stream music, make internet phone calls, and get a leg up on opponents when playing online games.
Easy Setup The WN511B is a PC Card and requires a Pentium 3 class PC with an available PC Card slot for installation. It supports Windows Vista and is also compatible with Windows XP and 2000 SP4. Setup is as simple as inserting the card into the slot and installing the included software. A built-in stub antenna helps you receive a strong signal for the fastest possible speeds.
Fast, Backwards Compatible, and Secure The NETGEAR WN511B uses the Wireless-N protocol (based on 802.11n draft) for speeds up to 270 Mbps and a range ten times that of 802.11g adapters. With this much speed and bandwidth, you can easily download large files, place Internet phone calls, download MP3s, stream video, and play online games -- all at the same time, without hiccups, and from farther away. You'll notice the difference immediately.
The WN511B is backwards compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b wireless networks so you'll be able to connect to any hotspot, and it improves network performance up to 50 percent when used with the older 802.11b/g networks.
You can feel secure about your information as the adapter supports Wi-Fi protected access (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK) and 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption for IEEE 082.11b and IEEE 802.11g. The included software makes managing different WEP passwords a breeze as you can set up different profiles for each location you frequent, saving yourself the trouble of having to type in encryption keys each time you connect to a hotspot you've already used.
The NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax Next Wireless-N Notebook Adapter is backed by a 1-year warranty.

Novatel MiFi 2200 Mobile Wi-Fi Modem (Verizon Wireless) Review

I have had a Verizon Wireless MiFi Broadband Router for about weeks now and felt it was time to share my real world experiences and thoughts on the device. In three words: IT IS GREAT!
What is it? It is basically a Verizon Wireless EVDO card in a small casing that acts as a Wi-FI Router and allows for 5 simultaneous devices to connect to it.
How does it work? The MiFi is like any other router, on the underside of it you will find a SSID and a WPA Security key so you can connect any of your devices to it via wi-fi. If you dont have a device with wi-fi y ou can plug it into your computer via usb and use the VZAccess Manager software to gain connectivity.
How big or small is it? Simply put, it is the size of a Kit-Kat bar.
Battery Life? I charged it fully for testing purposes and connected my blackberry 8900 and iPhone 3g to it. My commutes are usualy about 4 hours round trip per day and thus this was the best way to test the device. I enabled streaming stock quotes on the blackberry and browsed using my iPhone for the entire time to really put it through its paces. Real world is after heavy usage about 5 hours of battery life. This will of course change based on coverage areas and the such.
Speed? This is where the MiFi shines - I must say I was impressed. Since there is no easy way to do a speed test from a mobile device, I simply connected my laptop to it via wi-fi and did 4-5 speed tests in different locations to make them as accurate as possible. The average speed is about 1.75mbits down and close to 800kbps up. Impressive to say the least...especially in remote parts of New Jersey and while moving in a vehicle. (Someone else was driving :-))
I am no stranger to mobile connectivity. The MiFi is a truly amazing device and its size alone makes it a MUST BUY! The ability to have wi-fi on all mobile devices via EVDO and not having to worry about connecting cards and cables is truly AMAZING.
Why then does it get a 4/5 - Simple - No unlimited data plans mean we have to keep our eyes on our usage and we may go over if we are not careful...especially because its so easy to get connected.

There are significant differences between MiFi2200 and other devices, primarily because it connects multiple devices to Mobile Broadband over Wi-Fi. The other modems require a physical connection, and may only be used with one notebook at a time. Further, MiFi2200 connects not just notebook computers, it can connect to Wi-Fi enabled devices, such as cameras, gaming devices, digital photo frames and more.
How is this different from a Router? The MiFi2200 is an Intelligent Mobile Hotspot that can operate as a USB Modem (with a USB Cable) or in Wi-Fi/BatteryMode, eliminating the need for a wired connection or an AC connection. Its lightweight, slim and compact features, make this the ultimate mobile hotspot.
What kind of security is available? MiFi2200 supports all the latest WEP/WPA/WPA-2 security and SPI firewall. It is recommended that security is set up in order to prevent unauthorized use.
When do I need to use the USB Cable? The USB Cable is required when MiFi2200 is used as a USB Modem and for first time setup and activation with VZAccess Manager. The cable can be used to connect after activation if MiFi2200 is out of battery power and there is no access to AC power. The cable can also be used for charging, but only when the device is dormant and not in an active data session.
